Not enough U-Haul trucks for fleeing Californians in 2021 amid ongoing blue-to-red fligh
t: report
Red states are top 5 gainers in U-Haul Growth Index signaling migration trends by measuring net difference between one-way entries and exits of the company's rental trucks for each state.

A new report released Monday revealed California saw the greatest net loss in U-Haul migration in 2021, the second consecutive year the Golden State ranked 50th in the nation for U-Haul one-way migration.

The U-Haul Growth Index, an annual report that determines growth by calculating the net gain of one-way U-Haul trucks entering a state versus leaving in a calendar year, found that California had the largest net losses in one-way U-Haul trucks in 2021, followed by Illinois in 49th place.

According to the report, California remained the top state for out-migration in 2021, but its net loss of U-Haul trucks "wasn?t as severe as 2020." Analysts believe this is partly because U-Haul "ran out of inventory to meet customer demand for outbound equipment."

Texas took the top spot for growth in 2021, followed closely by Florida. According to the report, "arrivals made up 50.2% of all one-way U-Haul traffic" last year in the Lone Star state. The five biggest gainers were all red states, with Tennessee, South Carolina and Arizona rounding out the top five behind the Lone Star and Sunshine states.

1) Because I can afford to be here (was born and raised here, how about you?) 2) I hope against hope that things will change for the better. (so far been disappointed).

As you previously stated you are from Greenland. I can afford to be here is not really a good reason. As you previously admitted you have not done nothing to improve Long Beach. I think I have done more since I previously did volunteer work there.

All talk.

Let?s try this another way?why did intel, a California based company, choose another state (Ohio) to invest $20 billion dollars and create thousands of high paying jobs?  The answer is obvious but it also is the reason everyone is leaving?too bad.

Intel selects Ohio for ?largest silicon manufacturing location on the planet?

Intel will spend at least $20 billion on new manufacturing hub near Columbus
Chip manufacturer Intel will spend at least $20 billion on a new chip manufacturing site in New Albany, near Columbus, Ohio, the company announced today. The 1,000-acre location will initially play host to two chip factories, and is set to directly employ at least 3,000 people and ?tens of thousands? more across suppliers and partners. Construction is reportedly due to kick off this year, with the site becoming operational in 2025.

The pandemic city exodus revealed: New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago lost the most residents with 75% of US counties seeing population decreases - but Dallas, Houston and Austin all saw increases
The U.S. Census Bureau found that Americans fled big cities like New York, LA, San Francisco and Chicago between April 2020 to July 2021 in favor of the South West
New York city lost the most residents going down by 328,000, with LA coming in second at a lost of 176,000
On the opposite end, Dallas saw its population spike by about 97,000 people, Houston grew by about 69,000 and Austin's population increased by about 53,300 new residents
The U.S. Census Bureau said the changes were attributed to fewer births, an aging population and increased death that were intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic and indicates a trend of where Americans are moving
In 2021, about 75 percent of US counties reported a population drop, a sharp increase from 2020 when only about 55 per cent reported a decrease in population

Remind me again... A shrinking, stagnant, aging population is great for housing, right?

California?s shrinking population has big consequences

The 2020 census pegged the state?s population at 39.5 million and a recent report from the Census Bureau says California had a net loss of more than a quarter-million residents between July 1, 2020, and July 1, 2021.

?California appears to be on the verge of a new demographic era, one in which population declines characterize the state,? PPIC demographer Hans Johnson writes in a new analysis. ?Lower levels of international migration, declining birth rates, and increases in deaths all play a role. But the primary driver of the state?s population loss over the past couple years has been the result of California residents moving to other states.?

Since 2010, Johnson continued, ?about 7.5 million people moved from California to other states, while only 5.8 million people moved to California from other parts of the country. According to Department of Finance estimates, the state has lost residents to other states every year since 2001.?

There are many reasons why they are fleeing and governance is certainly one of them...

Why Utah weathered COVID better than any other US state - and why New Jersey fared worst: Bombshell study proves just how dangerous draconian lockdowns were for America - and why red state governors were RIGHT to resist them
New study ranks Utah as the best performing state during the pandemic, and New Jersey as the worst
Authors assessed each state based on economic performance, education policy, and mortality
Utah fared well on all three measures, keeping mortality low even while rejecting lockdowns
Study finds that the correlation between lockdowns and pandemic mortality was 'essentially zero'

Births are down and immigration is up but that really is the point.  For example..two of my neighbors, on my little 25 house street, just sold their houses for cash.  Both are native Californians, one retired and one with a thriving on line business.  Both are moving out of state.  One to Tennessee and the other to Texas.  Both are moving because of the political and business environment here.  These are thriving, tax paying, NATIVE Californians....We are driving a stake into our own hearts, replacing the tax base with mostly poor immigrants will not sustain this top heavy beaurocracy...it is tragic and totally avoidable.

but what about births and immigration since 2001?  also down?

Births have been trending down for some time.  Immigration was the only thing keeping population increasing, but now that has faltered.

Last year, the state declined by 250,000 people.  Was it a one time blip due to Covid?  Or the start of a new longer term trend?  We should have more numbers by the end of summer.

Did you read the entire article this time?

Let's see if you can point out the misleading words in your headlines and the actual content of the article.

And then you can also show us that not one single business or school closed in Utah and find an article that says there were no Covid safety protocols uses in Utah like restrictions on social gathering or mask wearing.

Or lets just forget that there are many variables in play here, like population density, size of economy, tourism, geography.... these comparisons have little value.

You cannot ?nuance? away or pretzel logic the clear trends. This article clearly supports the headline. Reality?s a bitch and you just can?t wish it away. Common sense is denied by the left. Basic facts (what is a woman) are blurred to try and push a non reality agenda. These trends are real..acknowledge them, ignore them. Economy gonna economy.

Quoting for 2018.

MoreKaos' predictions have been scarily correct (except for the mass exodus of businesses from California :) ).

I stand by my predictions...causality, cause and effect.

Nearly 450,000 People Fled These Three Deep Blue States In 2017

California was the third deep blue state to experience significant domestic out-migration between July 2016 and July 2017, and it couldn?t blame the outflow on retirees searching for a more agreeable climate. About 138,000 residents left the state during that time period, second only to New York.

Going forward, one factor that could worsen domestic out-migration from New York, California and Illinois is the newly-enacted tax reform bill, which caps state and local tax (SALT) deductions at $10,000. The limit on SALT deduction is poised to hit taxpayers harder in those states than it will in just about any other.

According to the Tax Foundation, New York, Illinois and California had three of the five highest tax rates expressed as a percentage of per capita income, with residents paying 12.7 percent, 11 percent and 11 percent, respectively.

Well that settles that ...

Supreme Court REJECTS bid from Democratic states to challenge SALT tax cut limits that mean only $10,000 of state and local rates can be deducted
New York led a group of states in seeking to strike down the law that limits people to deducting $10,000 of state and local tax from their federal tax bill

The cap was enacted as part of the 2017 Trump tax bill to offset other cuts
In October of last year, a Second Circuit Court of Appeals had rejected the state's argument that the deduction was unconstitutional
Congressional Democrats in blue states oppose the cap - the House-passed Build Back Better plan rose the cap to $80,000 until 2031,

Might as well put a stake in it...who needs businesses anyway?... ;D ;D >:D

California wants to wring something out of its remaining businesses for nothing

California's liberals just can't help themselves. Their state is already in such decline that it is losing big-name companies, losing population, and losing seats in Congress. But they won't stop doing what it takes to drive away every business and profitable venture they possibly can.

In 2020, the Democrats who control California's legislature very nearly drove Uber and Lyft out of their state, formerly the cradle of technological innovation. They would have succeeded in this effort at self-harm but for a judge's last-minute intervention. Now they are attempting to set employee hours with a central planning scheme that would be hilarious were it not being proposed in earnest.

California Democrats now want to impose a four-day workweek on all large employers. No, this is not the innovative "4/10" plan that some workers and businesses have voluntarily adopted. Rather, this is a hard 32-hour cap on the regular workweek. This bill, were it to become law, would require businesses with more than 500 employers to pay overtime beyond 32 hours despite banning (or attempting to ban) affected businesses from paying their employees less than they currently make for working 40 hours.

In other words, California's legislators think they can force companies to pay employees 25% more per hour of work without any negative repercussions for California's economy and business climate. What could possibly go wrong?

What's wrong with a 3-day weekend?

Because the fools expect the same productivity with the same pay and less time...it won't work.  Besides, it is not the governments business to tell business how they should run their business's...if this passes more good businesses will be taking their business's elsewhere. ;D ;D >:D

I agree that government should not dictate how businesses run... but when it comes to working hours and labor laws... horse is already out of the barn.

I'm with you on this not turning out well... but I still would rather have a 4-day work week.

Or we can be like some other countries and have siestas. :)

It's like this dumb law.  Stay out of the private sector, let businesses make those decisions for themselves....they are best positioned to decide efficiency and merit.

California Law Requiring Board Diversity Is Struck Down
In a blow to the state?s efforts to deal with disparities in the workplace, a judge found the law unconstitutional. It?s unclear whether the state will appeal the ruling.

A California law requiring diversity on corporate boards of directors has been struck down in a blow to the state?s efforts to address racial and gender disparities in the workplace.

In response to a lawsuit brought by Judicial Watch, a nonprofit conservative advocacy group, Judge Terry Green of Los Angeles County Superior Court on Friday found that the law violated the state constitution.

The law, Assembly Bill 979, went into effect in 2020. It requires publicly traded companies based in California to have board members from underrepresented communities including people of several races and ethnic groups and people who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender. Gov. Gavin Newsom, in signing the bill into law, proclaimed it a victory for racial justice and empowerment.

Judicial Watch?s lawsuit, filed a month after the law was signed, argued that it was unconstitutional because it mandated quotas.

California's population SHRINKS again: Most populous US state falls by more than 100,000 for second year in a row to 39.2M due to low birth rate, a spike in deaths and a mass exodus
California's population declined by 117,552 last year, the second straight decline
Births and immigration failed to make up for higher deaths and a mass exodus
A net 280,000 people left California to move to other states last year

State officials blame a decline in international immigration during the pandemic

morekaos still doesn't fully read his own links...

No big deal:

The population loss marks a 0.3% decline, down from the 0.59% decline over the nine-month period between the April 2020 Census date and the year?s end

.3%? And that's actually lower than the previous period? Really?

And why you ask?

?As Baby Boomers age, and fertility declines among younger cohorts, the continuing slowdown in natural increase ? births minus deaths ? underlies the plateauing of the state?s population growth. The addition of COVID-19-related deaths, federal policies restricting immigration, and an increase in domestic out-migration further affected population totals. Overall growth was also affected by continuing federal delays in processing foreign migration: while last year saw positive immigration (43,300), the level was below the average annual rate of 140,000 before the pandemic,? according to a department statement.

So due to Fed processing delays, we are minus about 100k immigration... which makes up for this 100k loss.

Hmm. Maybe morekaos was just kidding again.
