I wouldn't bother with the range extender. Adds weight and oil -- and while it will have green sticker qualification, there won't likely be many left by the time it comes out. So slim chance of carpool lane qualification. But that's me... I've long since gotten over range anxiety with 80 miles/charge despite trips that really test it.

Agree with you 100% on the i3 extender.  The full tank is only 2.5 gal and it doesn't really provide a significant additional driving range, its more of an emergency back up option.
