Your tax dollars hard at work ... so much for Mexico paying for it.

The press secretary said Mexico will pay for it one way or another.

You do realize that any import tariffs will be passed on directly to consumers. Mexico is not going to write a check for somewhere around $20-40bn and then annually for $1bn (operating cost) in perpetuity.

It's possible to be paid by an outbound wire fee of $X per transaction for any international wires under $5,000 (unless cash source reporting threshold is $10k).

Yes, that means "everyone" is going to pay, but the majority of said wires of that amount might be headed South of the US border.

There are other ways - charging X as a fee on licensed US products and patents used overseas, for example. If the X is .10c to .50c there might not be a pass through to US consumers given how small the expense might be relative to how insignificant the cost is as an impact to producing the product. Most small expense changes do not move the end product price needle, but thin the profit margins down. The trick then is how tight do you squeeze and still avoid a price hike back to US consumers.

Mexico might say they are not, but if NAFTA will be renegotiated and possibly include with a tariff, in my opinion that is a payment to the US.

SGP mention tax on wire transfer possibly which is a good point. There is a lot of money that get sent to Mexico from the US. (Big time amount, Yuge)

Two questions:

Will it be beautiful?

Will it go far enough into the ground to prevent tunneling underneath?

Another question

Will it be called Trump's Great Wall or Great Wall of US?

Mexico will pay for it, one way or another.  They're going to shutdown car production in Mexico bringing those jobs back stateside.  Loss of those mexican jobs is an indirect way of paying for it.

Federal funds will be used to pay for it. It needs to be paid for in the literal sense. How will these funds be replenished? A tax on remittances? $20bn entry fee into NAFTA 2.0? Higher visa/entry processing fees at the border?

perfect timing for matt damon's movie, this makes to be a great sequel centuries later

wonder if there are details, and how it compares to the great wall, or the berlin wall, or THE wall that defends against the whitewalkers and wildlings

"Between January and November of 2016, $24.6 billion flowed back to the pockets of Mexicans from friends and relatives living overseas, according to Mexico's central bank.
That's even higher than what Mexico earns from its oil exports -- $23.2 billion in 2015. And almost all of that cash comes from the U.S."

Different article talks about the remittance plays a big part in Mexico with pictures.http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN14M145

Mexico will pay for it. No question in my mind.

Whether it's in the form of tariffs or better trade deals in favor of US.

I am all for it. Mexico has walked all over us for years. Less drugs, less gangs, less American lives getting ruined or killed.

Whether you agree with Trump or not, he meant what he said and he wasted no time.

Thinking a wall will keep "bad hombres" from getting into the US is like thinking a gated community is safe from criminals.

Did having police stop all criminals?

Not sure what you mean by this but my point is it's a false sense of security.

Sure, it will make it harder for the common "illegal" to cross over, but the smart ones, the "bad" ones, the well-funded ones... will cross regardless.

Did you watch World War Z? Even mindless zombies can find a way around a wall.

I think the point is that you have to try. Even on a symbolic basis a border is more than a line in the sand. Lack of an impediment is an open invitation.
