Curry House lovers rejoice! No, they are not re-opening but we will get another Japanese curry option in Irvine.

Maji Curry will be opening at the Walnut Village shopping center on Culver (between the old Burntzilla & Jamba Juice). They have 3 restaurants in Japan and this will be their first US location. The menu appears similar to Coco Ichiban.

Reminds me of the delay opening the new HMarts. It's been 1.5 yrs and still no grand opening.

Not gonna happen if they're only paying $15/hr, lol.

Ralphs, a division of The Kroger Co., says its average hourly wage in Southern California is $19 an hour. When healthcare and pension benefits are added in that jumps to $25 an hour, the company said.

Flame Broiler of off Sand Canyon closed... going to be replaced by Wagyu... their 3rd location in Irvine.

Not sure how Wagyu is doing better than Flame Broiler... they don't even have steamed veggies. :(

Zip Korean BBQ opened up in the District... as are few other places (Ramen, corn dogs and something else I can't remember).

Speaking of the district, have we talked about union market? Can?t believe how sad that place looks now - they need to rehaul it completely. And portola coffee is gone.

So true.

The biggest problem with the District is how they have their parking and traffic set up. The closest place to park next to the Union Market is the worst place to park to get in and out quickly... so people don't want to waste that time. Parking on the other side (near the defunct JT Schmid's. a former TI meetup spot) is a bit better but farther and still not an easy in/out.

I've been there a few times recently and some of the shops aren't even open during lunch... and then the other places close early.

The Mexican place wasn't open very long... nice people but the food was not worth the prices they were charging.

I just don't think the management team for the Union Market adjusts very well... the one in the Kaleidoscope in Mission Viejo is also deserted and the Food Hall that just opened in South Coast plaza (next to Boudin) closed down too.

And speaking of the Kaleidoscope and food halls, Bristol Farms Newfound Market looks to be doing pretty good at the Spectrum I always wondered why it closed at Kaleidoscope and there were rumors for years they would open another south OC location. Looks like they chose Irvine... and this one is sort of a mesh of a food hall  and market with an Italian restaurant attached. "The Cookie" is still a great deal.

anyone know what's going on with the curry place on Culver, next to where Burntzilla used be. It has been under construction for at least 2 years now.

Went to H-Mart on Saturday... big mistake... grand opening madness.

But the place is huge and the food court has quite a few offerings... more than the DJ H-Mart.

Are they keeping both open? I think someone mentioned that the DJ H-Mart was going to be replaced by a Chinese grocery store.

So when they open new H-mart on Irvine and Culver, they?ll close Westpark one?

IHO was referring to the Hmart at Diamond Jamboree that might close.

My wife went to the Westpark HMart, saw the crowds, said f this, and went to the DJ HMart which was unusually devoid of people.

No Love Letter Pizza in the food court though... you haven't lived until you had pizza with bulgogi and corn on it.

They did have the famous Korean corn dogs though... and Korean fried chicken.
