Rate the last movie you saw...

Turns out that RedboxInstant (their competing service to Netflix) had Rise of the Guardians on streaming but since I don't have our XBox connected to one of our larger TVs, the kids would have complained. I think I'm going to give RBI a trial (1st month free), you get 4 free disc rentals per month and after that it's $8/month ($9/month if you want BluRay). The only problem is RBI isn't on the PS3 yet and early reviews say the streaming isn't that good (it is in Beta right now).
But since RBI is more movie focused... I want to see how their selection is compared to Netflix.

I caught "Here Comes the Boom" on a recent flight. I'll give it a 7.5 /10 in view of the genre that it is. We rarely get time to catch a movie.
As for Ms. McCarthy, while I originally liked Mike & Molly and thought Bridesmaids was marginally funny. I'm taking a extreme dislike to the persona the Molly character is becoming and the Identity Thief character just seems like it's another jaded extension of that character.
But... Game of Thrones starts Sunday...
I miss netflix and watching BBC series while 'running' on my elliptical crosstrainer. One hour episode, 45 minutes. Perfect.
We want to upgrade or DTV DVR, but we've got a 70% full backlog of stuff we've got for reference or child entertainment.
GI Joe Retaliation 5/10
I would have been a 3 or 4 if not for The Rock. This movie was delayed for 9 months for some story retooling and post 3D conversion... but the story was still bad. Watch the first one if you want to see a better GI Joe movie.
The Croods 7.5/10
This was actually better than GI Joe. The kids really liked it... it was a bit like Ice Age 2 and Up to me. A bit strange with Nic Cage's distinctive voice coming out of caveman... but the story and "acting" was good.
Kung Fu Panda 2 8/10 (we bought the BluRay last week in sale at Target)
We loved Kung Fu Panda (one of the first movies my kids watched in the theater) and KFP2 was great also. I think I liked the story of KFP more, but KFP2 had its moments. We liked the action in KFP2 more than GI Joe. :
The first 3 flicks are widely available.
The latest 2 Ip Man flicks just came out in Asia, so perhaps check your local chinese video stores.
Or just wait a few months...

The Grandmaster - Beautiful cinematography and use of slow-mo in the good fight scenes. There was some wire work. Story focuses on 2 main characters, so it's tough to get attached to any one of them. Better than The Final Fight imo.

olympus has fallen 8.5/10 - im surprised no one has tried to attack the white house in such a manner
GI Joe Retaliation - 7/10 - a lot of action and the Rock typically a good combo
Springbreakers - 6.5-7/10 - 4 chicks in bikinis killing people should merit a 10/10 but wasnt sure what to make of the storyline. James Franco did a great job as the rapper. Selena Gomez is hot right now, but still to thin, wait till she is in her late 20s.

Squeezed in "Real Steel" rerun on a movie channel one weekend morning when I couldn't sleep.
5/10. Completely average, better than infomercials, "Rocky" remake of an ex-fighter deadbeat dad robot fighter jock redeemed by his estranged orphaned minor child.
Side note: 3D. Anybody else really despise 3D? I still think the best 3D I've seen is the opening scene of HP, Deathly Hallows. It seemed like a decent fit into the story. Everything else, is just gimmicky placement and really distracts from the story and experience, IMHO and more importantly, leaves a lot of the scene out of focus because of the glasses which only focus if your looking straight at the screen. To see the corners of the screen in focus, you need to turn your head and then the center of the screen is blurry.
Season 3, episode 1 of Game of Thrones ... might be a long season as the story line is getting chopped into about ten five minute vignettes. The books we're a bit that way I'm told, it could make viewing tedious.
Anybody watching "Being Human" "Lost Girl" "Defiance"?

Pitch Perfect - 8/10
What... an 8?? Well... we liked the show The Sing-Off and this was somewhat like it (and like Glee a bit). Fat Amy was hilarious and I guess you can say I'm an Anna Kendrick fan (she surprised me in "Up In The Air"). Didn't know she can really sing (saw her on David Letterman).
Abraham Lincoln vampire Hunter - 7/10
Hehe... I like the vampire/zombie genre and this one was interesting with tying in a historical backdrop. Much better than the Abraham Lincoln Zombie Killer I saw on Netflix a while ago.

Django Unchained - 8.5/10 - good story and great acting by Foxx and Waltz and Samuel L. Jackson, highly recommended.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - 7/10 - most of us know the story more or less, so it was all down to the execution. Started out slow and a bit annoying, but it gradually built up to a more interesting story. Look forward to the next movie.
