I did like being able to use my regular TV remote control for the DVD instead of the Ruko which I don't like. Much more convenient. I guess that's one good thing about RedBox. This is the first time in 3 years+ that I've used my Blue Ray player. It gets so little use that I wasn't even positive I had one. And you're right, the picture quality was better than Amazon instant thingy. I don't keep up with this stuff so I don't know all the terminology... whatever you said about that... ditto. I only downloaded exercise videos so I wasn't too concerned about quality on those but yeah, for a sit-down type movie, better quality is good.
I just have a hard time watching movies, period. 2 hours is too long for me to stay glued to a single film. (The Titanic was sheer terror for me.) I wish movies were no more than an hour long, the shorter the better. I was raised that it's a shame to spend hours in a dark theater wasting away the day let alone pay for it. Movies were like a special occasion thing, something social to do with friends just when you're a kid and have no responsibilities. That has stuck with me. I also get bored quickly. I don't make a good Redbox customer. I do like watching TV, though.
