I did like being able to use my regular TV remote control for the DVD instead of the Ruko which I don't like. Much more convenient. I guess that's one good thing about RedBox. This is the first time in 3 years+ that I've used my Blue Ray player. It gets so little use that I wasn't even positive I had one. And you're right, the picture quality was better than Amazon instant thingy. I don't keep up with this stuff so I don't know all the terminology... whatever you said about that... ditto. I only downloaded exercise videos so I wasn't too concerned about quality on those but yeah, for a sit-down type movie, better quality is good.

I just have a hard time watching movies, period. 2 hours is too long for me to stay glued to a single film. (The Titanic was sheer terror for me.) I wish movies were no more than an hour long, the shorter the better. I was raised that it's a shame to spend hours in a dark theater wasting away the day let alone pay for it. Movies were like a special occasion thing, something social to do with friends just when you're a kid and have no responsibilities. That has stuck with me. I also get bored quickly. I don't make a good Redbox customer. I do like watching TV, though.

Interestingly enough, although we watch quite a few movies, I agree with you that it feels like a waste of time (especially when it's a bad movie like Noah).

You like to watch TV shows, do you every watch more than 2 hours of it at one time? Don't the commercials irk you (or maybe that keeps you from getting bored)? I hardly every watch live TV unless it's sports because I can't take watching commercials. Or if a show starts at 8pm, I'll DVR it and start watching it at 8:20 so I can skip all the adverts.

Seriously Socal, get the Fire, you'll like the voice control, just hold the mic button and say what you want to watch, pay a little more money for the convenience.  It also has games for your kids to play, so they won't hog up the tablets or phones.

I have Dish Hopper. That helps. I never watch live T.V., only pre-recorded / recording in progress like you and skip or hop the commercials 'cause I can't take it either. Most nights I watch a couple hours of TV but it has to be different programs because otherwise I get restless.

I did just recently finish a Mad Men "Breaking Bad" marathon session on Netflix. For a few weeks, I spent every Saturday watching the shows back-to-back for a few hours and at nights during the weekdays after my kids went to bed. It was a little easier since the show was more captivating than most, however, I was definitely ready for it to be over and get my life back. It was a struggle finishing the second half of the last season. It became more of a chore than a "want to". I've tried doing it with other shows but I couldn't last that long and gave up.

Edit: Wrong show.

Dang, a "Blue Ray" player, a "Ruko" and a Hoppah... you Amish have more techology than most. :)

Yeah... I can't sit and binge-watch shows... I have to be doing something else, like posting on TI.

Eh.
What was wrong with it?

Might have to cross that off my list.

I'm not really good at putting things into words but I'll try. I think the only things that made the movie salvageable were Matthew McConaughey and the sort of informative / historical aspect of the film that were based on a true story -- however much FDA policies were actually affected and drug trials actually went down as portrayed, that is.

Matthew plays his role effortlessly... but it is a double-edged sword. For those of us with backwoods family, he is oh-so familiar. In my mind, I was easily able to extrapolate his character into my father or any of my uncles sipping a Michelob, listening to George Jones, language peppered with foul words... right down to the Buck knife with belt holder that never leaves their side. His dialect and mannerisms are spot-on, very authentic. Nobody else could have done this role as well as him. BUT that's because he is a Texan. A redneck Texan playing a redneck Texan isn't much of a stretch.

The rest of the film was weak. It just wasn't very deep. At times it was like watching a high school play rendition. Some of the scenes that could have been more meaty were rushed. While others were cheaply done. A few were too "sitcomy" and predictable. I thought the camera work was also pretty novice.

Jennifer Garner was an ill fit. She doesn't transition well from the "13 Going on 30" type of film to this.

Jared Leto seemed like he was doing more of a parody of a transvestite.

The movie never really hit a stride. It could have possibly been better had they allocated time differently by developing the other characters a little more.

SoCal calls it Ruko. So maybe you should call it Feri. :)

:) Funny, Iho. What is the proper way to say it?
Raw-co?
Roo-koo?
Row-koo? <- I think it's this one
Raw-koo? <- But I say this one
Row-co?

I'm spelling all of these right. They are Amish knockoffs. Deceptively similar to the real thing. But wooden.

... Continued from the "Crazy, Stupid, Love" post in another thread.

Qwerty and Iho, you guys might be surprised to know you are actually better looking than Ryan Gosling. I wonder if that shocks you guys because people are brainwashed to believe he's "all that" by the way he is portrayed. I know some other ladies who feel the same way I do about him. It's much the same way as there are actresses who are no better looking than women you see on the street. Some people get ahead because of who they know and that makes me wonder what his connections are. Take Tori Spelling, for example. She's kind of the Ryan Gosling of the female world. That may actually be a bit unfair to Ryan. Tori is unattractive, imo. I wouldn't call him "ugly", though.

i know im better looking than ryan gosling, dont know about IHO though :-)

you are correct, there are plenty of women on TV who are considered hot, but are actually average looking at best.  rooney mara is an example, kristen bell kind of has beady eyes, i dont think jennifer anistons face is pretty, she has a potato for a nose, sarah jessica parker is kind of ugly, jennifer lawrence's face is not attractive, yeah tori spelling looks like a horse.

Attractiveness isn't just based on looks to me.

Gosling may not be the most handsome... but something about that nasally voice and those Photoshopped abs...

And Emma Stone may not be the prettiest, but she does have something... she's Gwen Stacey!!
