NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Anchorman 2 out on Blu-Ray/DVD this Tuesday!  Not able to see it yet since wife hates it and not appropriate for the kid.  Last movie we saw in theaters was Frozen :(

Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 9/10

We usually don't like watching big movies opening day but the positive buzz had us looking forward to this one (and the trailer for it was the best part about Noah :) ).

If you like superhero movies, this is probably one of the better ones to come out in a while. The best of Marvel's Phase 2 and probably close to Iron Man 1.

Good pacing, great action scenes and a mostly coherent story/plot.

A bit violent for younger kids (it is rated PG-13) but it was definitely worth the Costco $8 vs that tragedy called Noah.

gravity 8/10

It was emotionally draining watching this movie, well done with the zero grav scenario.  Bullock has come a long way since Speed.

Did anyone here see "Dallas Buyers Club"? I'd really like to see it. It's available on Pay Per View on Dish for $6 but I'm too much of a tightwad to allow myself to buy it. I will wait until it's free.

You can rent it from RedBox on DVD for $1.20 (or BluRay for $1.50)... BluRay is better quality than PPV.

Oh, really?? That's cool. Well, I do have plans to be at a store today that has a RedBox. I've never used a RedBox, though. How does this newfangled thing work? I need a RedBox lesson, stuck in the 19th century. Help me, Iho. My Amish township does not have such a RedBox. I will take the wagon into town. A) How do we know it is inside that box? Somebody once told me there was a very, very limited selection. B) How do we know how much it costs? Are all movies the same? C) How long is the rental good for? D) Where do I put it when I'm done? E) Are there any drive-through Redboxes?

i used redbox once, during the gap when we moved here, but directv was not reinstalled yet. its pretty easy, just scroll through the movies they have on hand, select one, put in your credit card and you are done. the selection is limited, mostly new/newer releases, it cost about $1 day, it will tell you on the screen, you rent it by the day so 4 days is $4, you but it back in the redbox when you are done, no drive thrus that im aware of.

Yes... usually new and popular titles. But I know that Dallas Buyer's Club is on most machines. You can search specific Redbox units at redbox.com or download the app on your AmishPhone.
B) How do we know how much it costs? Are all movies the same?
The price difference is by media not title... DVDs are $1.20, BluRays are $1.50.
C) How long is the rental good for?
Until 9pm the next day. If you don't return it by 9pm, it will charge you the same rate each day.
D) Where do I put it when I'm done?
The same slot you get them from, but you press "Return" instead of "Rent" and it will instruct you to put the disc back.
E) Are there any drive-through Redboxes?
Not that I know of. They are mostly in grocery stores.

We've been using Redbox more lately because there have been a few releases we didn't get to watch in the theaters and don't want to wait until cable or Netflix gets them. Plus, BluRay is better than cable (although Netflix also streams in 1080p... watch The Avengers... so good).

This sounds like a lot of work. We have one of those Rukoo Ruko Roku(?) things. Maybe I should use it / Amazon Instant Video. But I guess Redbox is a few bucks cheaper.

Credit card?? You mean you can't feed dollars into it? Weird. Where is the dollar and coin slot?

I hope SoCal is not in front of me in the RedBox line...

Q: How many blonds does it take to rent a movie?

A: None... if there is a smart Asian guy standing in line behind her.

*Crossing my fingers.*

Nope.

The reason why you have to use a credit card is because if you don't return it, they can auto-charge you for each day. And if you never return it, they charge for the disc (~$25 for DVD, ~$35 for BD and ~$60 for games).

The cool thing is you can return it to any Redbox, so you don't have to take it back the specific unit you rented from.

Yup and I'm sure it prevents people from trying to steal the machines for money.

You can also reserve the DVD online. That way it's guaranteed to be there when you go to pick it up.
