IAC Renters. Check the prices before you renew your Lease.

IAC, in my opinion, is evil. (If anyone's curious I'll elaborate)

Did I contribute much of anything to this discussion? No, but at least I'm not feuding over the "internets".

The saga of my dealings with IAC begin when I was back in high school....

When my parents moved our family back from Maryland, they were renting their house, so we temporarily rented in Park West (which I now refer to as 'Park Watts'). The first apartment the staff gave to us was infested with bugs - cockroaches, ants, etc. There were also stains on the carpet and it was dirty - like they never bothered to clean it up before renting to us! My mom had to talk with the staff there, including managers, etc. And they were reluctant to give us a new apt and said it'd be a couple days to clean out the existing one! I had to stay with friends until they decided to give us a new place. Now this was in mid summer, so UCI kids had moved out and the next batch hadn't quite moved in, so there were plenty of other places available. But the staff was unapologetic and didn't think that there was anything wrong with "a few ants".

A few years later, I was attending UCI, and my buddies and I needed an apt. so we got one at Cornell Court. Now you needed a guarantor in order to rent here, meaning someone had to be making more than 4x the rent $ (if I remember correctly). Being in college, none of us had that cheese, so my parents were kind enough to provide their information to the staff. Six months later my parents received calls from various credit card companies, etc. asking about their payments. They had no clue about this, since they didn't have those cards. They then had detectives a year later call them asking about other types of financial dealings that they had nothing to do with. Identity theft!!!!!! Although we couldn't prove it, I am positive that someone in that office stole my parents' information.

Those are just 2 stories on why I will NEVER rent from IAC.

I guess the IAC is great that he can always renew his lease as long as he pays the non-negotiable asking price, and he will never find the red tag on his door as long as he pays his rent on time.

Wow, I was gonna start a post of my own but I guess I can put my two cents in here. I just wanted to vent a little bit, since I just heard that my brother was moving into the same IAC complex as me, and is getting a bigger floor plan for $1,000 less than what I'm currently paying.

Having just read through the three pages (interesting word wars we have here), I saw that there seems to be no way for me to renegotiate my current lease, right? So I'm basically relegated to sulking and wishing that I had their deal.

*sigh*

I'd check your lease for acceptable reasons to break it. Some leases I have had included employment transfer clauses that went into effect if my job required me to move more than "X" miles away.

Or join the military. You can break any lease, regardless of it's terms, if you are shipped off somewhere, but the cost/benefit might be....not so great.

Punch, $1000 less per month?! or per annum? Which complex?

Thanks for the suggestions, Nude, JCaraway. I'll have to look at my lease agreement more closely later. The military, eh? Too much gear for me :b

JCar, per annum...had it been per month, I'd prolly break my lease, haha. It's at Woodbury Lane. They apparently have low occupancy at present. I probably shouldn't gripe, some people might say it's just 100 bucks, but that could have been gas money, yeah?

Now that the topic seems to have sort of resolved itself. . . I just want to say that I thoroughly enjoyed jcaraway vs bltserv. I was trying to figure out which one was older, and can't tell. Would you gentlemen mind sharing? Anyone have a vote if they don't share?

Interesting guess on JC, Trooper. His terminology or something seemed kind of old school, so I think of him as older than that. I know Blt has got to be up in late 50's or older because of his "adult children taking" his "old butt" to the airport.

I'm going to err on the side of caution, i'll admit, my tone in some of these forums has been less than friendly and i'd prefer to maintain my anonymity.

Resolved itself? I think i made a pretty good point that you can't renegotiate a lease or a lease renewal, and that the one thing you should verify is that when you do sign a lease w/ a "discount" from IAC you need to be aware that it will probably reset at year end to market plus inflation adjustment.

Haha, you both sounded crotchety. . . although when an IAC rental officer read over this thread, he printed it out and said that everyone sounded respectful. So everybody wins.

I'm sure neither one of you are that pissed, you were just fired up talking about the subject. The two of you (jcaraway and bltserv) probably already have met on some golf course and had a beer together and talked about how great Gold Bond is while wearing Reyn Spooner shirts from your respective colleges, so it's all good.
