Fox Illinois News: COVID-19 is the leading cause of death for officers nationwide, according to a new report by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund.

The 2021 report shows from January 1st to June 30th, 71 officers nationwide died of COVID-19 related causes. This number was more than firearm and traffic-related incidents combined.

Do you even know anyone in law enforcement or fire? They are not quitting because they are afraid of getting COVID, they don?t want a mandated jab. They are losing numerous seasoned employees because of the mandate. Villanueva is an administrator who has to deal with mass resignations and still protect the public.

With so much attention / money being spent on vaccines, I hope the federal government doesn't lose sight on COVID therapeutics. I'm looking forward to Phase II trial data from Merck on Molnupiravir. It's an oral agent with the potential to arrest viral replication within 24 hrs (based on animal models). This could be a groundbreaking medicine if found to be effective and safe.

Exciting followup news on Molnupiravir. The data suggests it reduced hospitalization and mortality by half versus placebo when taken within 5 days of symptom onset. They plan to apply for FDA emergency use authorization.

More exciting news on the therapeutic side. Pfizer released data suggesting their new drug, Paxlovid may reduce hospitalization or death by 89%.

Market reaction was swift and brutal:

Pfizer -      Up 11%
Biontech - Down 21%
Moderna - Down 17%
Novavax - Down 11%
Merck -    Down 10%

Vaccine, natural immunity, therapeutics
We should let people choose and weigh the pro and con. Vaccine is not the only solution so mandate makes no sense.

Vaccine is the only solution if you don't want to catch COVID.

Do you even know what natural immunity means? It means you've caught COVID.

The reason we're still in this pandemic is because there are so many people refusing to take the vaccine. Because of that, we haven't been able to achieve herd immunity.

The estimated cost of the treatment for the is around $700. (Five day drug)
* That is just an estimate ball park figure. I am guessing it will cost a lot more.

Florida on Friday surpassed 60,000 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, as 698 more deaths and 1,635 additional COVID-19 cases were reported to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to Miami Herald calculations of CDC data. All but 343 of the newly reported deaths occurred since Oct. 8, according to the Herald analysis; 24% of the newly reported cases are people who have died in the past two weeks, the analysis showed.

So more than half of the 698 deaths reported Nov 5 occurred before Oct 8.

Florida?s trend lines mean nothing.

I suspect some involuntary turnover in the Texas State Department of Health is imminent.

A vast majority of Texans who have died due to the coronavirus since the beginning of the year were unvaccinated, according to a grim new Texas health department report released Monday.?The report from the Texas Department of State Health Services examined data from Jan. 15 to Oct. 1 and found that unvaccinated people were much more likely to get infected and die of the virus than those who got their shots.
(Snip)

The figures highlight just how much more at risk the unvaccinated population has been this year: In all age groups, the state?s unvaccinated were 40 times more likely to die than fully vaccinated people. The study also found that the unvaccinated in all age groups were 45 times more likely to have a covid-19 infection than fully vaccinated people. It also looked closely at data from September and underlined the impact of the highly contagious delta variant, which fueled a surge in Texas, as it did in much of the country.?The report from Texas health officials underscores the risk that cases and death counts would spike among the unvaccinated, echoing the alarms that public health officials have been sounding throughout the year. The report, which Texas health officials say is the first statistical assessment of the real-world effect there of vaccines against the coronavirus, also highlights the impact in a state where Republican leaders have sharpened attacks on public health strategies throughout the pandemic. Last month, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) banned any entity in the state from mandating vaccines for workers or customers.

I would post a link but I want Mety to Google it. :)

?This week?like the weather, things will change. Besides I don?t care, I?ve already had it and according the the isrealis I?m 27 times more protected by natural immunity than everyone else so whatever place Cali wants to be at this week is of little concern to me.  What I do care about is the $6.00 gas I saw the other day? in that respect Cali is surely number one!!

This week...weather sure changes a lot huh?...

California?s COVID-19 case rate now twice Florida?s

SAN JOSE, Calif. ? A month ago, the coronavirus seemed headed for a long winter?s nap in masked and well-vaccinated California. Gov. Gavin Newsom boasted that the Golden State ?continues to lead the nation? as the only state to reach the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention?s yellow ?moderate? tier of community virus transmission.

COVID-19 cases are not falling in California anymore. They have climbed back up to the CDC?s blood-red ?high? level of virus transmission as the highly contagious delta variant continues to wreak havoc.

Meanwhile, the virus has gone quiet in Deep South states that abandoned mask orders, opposed vaccine mandates, posted lower vaccination rates and saw larger outbreaks over the summer. California?s case rate is now well above Texas? and double Florida?s, which along with the rest of the Gulf Coast are down to the CDC?s orange ?substantial? transmission level.

Florida changed its Covid death reporting method making toll look less bad, newspaper?s analysis claims

Health authorities in Florida, a state that is battling its deadliest surge in coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic, appear to have tweaked the process of reporting deaths, a report suggests.

The Florida Department of Health on 10 August switched from reporting deaths on the day they were recorded, to new deaths by the date on which the person died, according to an analysis by the Miami Herald and el Nuevo Herald newspaper

Experts have said that this shift in counting deaths is problematic, suggesting that it tampered with the true assessment of the Covid-19 disease spread.

?Florida showed an artificial decline in recent deaths and without an explanation or context, and it would seem like we are doing better than we are,? Shivani Patel, a social epidemiologist and assistant professor at Emory University was quoted as saying by the Miami Herald. ?It is extremely problematic especially since it came without warning or explanation during a rise in cases,? she said.

This means, going by the previous methodology, Florida death data should show an average of 262 daily deaths reported to the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention over the previous week. But, the unexplained and sudden shift in counting deaths showed just 46 ?new death? per day in the last week, showing a significant dip in the death rate even as the cases and deaths continue to soar, the analysis pointed out.

Difference between the two methods is significant in terms of accurate reporting of data. In the first method, the deaths are counted on the date they occurred - which is a straight way to report them. This method is widely used for producing deaths and new cases by most states and countries.

A North Dakota lawmaker and an organizer of a rally Monday to oppose COVID-19 vaccine mandates is infected with the coronavirus and won?t attend the event.

Republican Rep. Jeff Hoverson posted on Facebook Sunday that he was ?quarantining and each day is getting better.? The Minot lawmaker said he is taking the deworming drug ivermectin as a COVID-19 treatment, and has not checked into a hospital.

?Covid is real and like a really bad flu,? Hoverson wrote.
