101 Things to do with a vacant house

Huh... MalibuRenter gave me a suggestion with his "more portable". Cut it in half as if it was pre-fab and rail car the two pieces to New Orleans. Hell, most tract homes could be downsized by half anyways. You could make two homes out of it. Call it a tax deduction or business loss...

    AMT vs HMID

Girl in the OC, The AMT is the alternative minimum tax. It was created (from fuzzy memory) in the 70s. It is an entire system of income taxation that rides paralell to what we normally think of. It was designed to tax a small group of people - like 2000 in the 70s based on their gross...

    What Should I Read?

No offense to these suggestions. But I would suggest you read blog analysis. They may be bias (by opinion), they may even be wrong, but they are often MANY times more easy to digest. I would suggest you read the analysis here, then hit the links off the main page to other blog rolls...

    Wine Thread

If you like the shiraz/syrah - cabernet blend, check out the Australia section. They do a good job of blending the two. You pay a little premium for the importing, but they have some good stuff. Might have to go a bit further than TJs to find it though.

If you like the hot taste, I know some great Vodkas. Too much alcohol doesn't allow the fruits or other flavors to come through.

real estate rants, ramblings, and questions

oc_fliptrack, non-powder guns (NPG) have muzzle velocities from 500 feet per second (fps) up to 1200 fps. They are much less regulated. Oh, btw, takes about 350-400 fps to penetrate skin and go into bone. Yes, these are not the same things we had as kids.

real estate rants, ramblings, and questions

awgee, w00h00! get it out man, sing it, SING IT! you forgot the /rant at the end. A valid rant and one I agree with as well. As for flipper resentment... I equate it to drug use. I'm a libertarian as well (nod oc_fliptrack). It's not that I have anything against them doing...

What do you guys think of home purchases that are land lease?

My in-laws live in a land-lease community. I've heard annuals as high as $30K, I think it's currently 22Kish. Who lives here? Rich retirees. Not like well-to-do rich, but like really rich. What do they get for the money. The landscaping is well-kept. The private golf course (must...

    Beer Thread

I had an Oregon beer this weekend. Moose Drool I'd buy it again. I thought it was more amber and hoppy than normal for an ale. Great name too.

Breaking!!! ==> Fed cuts discount rate by 50 basis points (from 6.25% to 5.75%)

As soon as I heard the headlines, all I could think of was Andy Kaufman doing this rare skit where he bangs on a bongo screaming "Cash for the merchandise, cash for the hard goods, cash for the soft goods" over and over. Does anyone remember it???

Ubernerd Post: Sales data for August will be worst since 80s bust

C'mon, you can't compare apples to apples, you need to compare cantaloupe to watermelon. One of my pet peeves is the exact sales numbers you talk about. Thanks for talking about it like it makes sense.
