People who buy at Stonegate are not guaranteed a spot for their children at SG elementary?
I thought that was the big selling pt of SG.

Walk ability to the school that gave OC register the most money.

In few years it will be (SG residents will goto SG elementary) as the construction of elementary schools in CV and near the Great Park are built in 1-2 years.  For now, you are not guaranteed.

That's only if hundreds of existing students transfer out in 1-2 years.  Existing students still have priority.  If someone from Woodbury is going to SG as kindergarten this year they can stay for the next 6 years.

Nope...they're kicking out all the non-SG kids out out of SG next year.  5th and 6th graders can stay but everyone else is going.

Isn't this an advantage for resale homes?

Sounds like buying a new home doesn't necessarily guarantee enrollment in the neighborhood school, which kills the "walkability factor".

Most older resale neighborhoods in Irvine don't have this level of closed enrollment in their schools.

Has anyone who has bought resale in pre-2005 hoods had issues with school enrollment?

very true indeed.. just a lot of unknowns as they figure things out with any new construction.  Although the upside is better for new homes in terms of value.  So.. choose your best path.

@furious:

I don't agree that all schools are as impacted as the ones that are serviced by the recent Irvine new builds.

Here is last year's list to give you a better idea:
http://www.iusd.org/enrollment/EnrollmentRestrictions-2012-2013.html

In the link you posted, they haven't even finished figuring out enrollment yet Stonegate and Woodbury are completely closed to outside of school area.

In last year's list, there are more older Elems open than the newer ones.

IHO-  check further down on my link and you will find the 2013-2014 (current year) closures including College Park, Eastshore which are closed to all outside residents-  all grades.  But what found most interesting is how many schools have closed grade levels even for residents for whom it is their home school.  For example-  6 schools were completely closed for 4th grade this school year.
Yes... but that's last/current year.

We are talking about next year and as you see by your link, Woodbury and Stonegate are ALREADY closed.

But if you want to use last/current year's list, which school had the most grades closed? And which schools were wide open?

There are lost cost housing units that get to go to Stonegate and people who buy new houses and pay mello roos might have to drive their kids to another school?
