The new iPhone 4 is HAWT!

How is the reception in Woodbury East? Lot of dropped calls?
I'm hoping that with the outside antenna on the 4G iPhone the reception will be improved compared to my LG phone.

How can you have dropped calls when there's that big cell tower?

Is there a (real) man out there that owns a white IPhone today? Have to assume not because I've only seen chicks with them. Curious why that is the case, since everyone usually puts some form of skin and or cover over them anyway.

My better half has a 3G JesusPhone and had to get a battery add on pack. It put another few ounces on the phone but sure comes in handy.  Any idea if the battery life on the JP4 are going to last any longer than the current generation?

For now, until the JPhone comes to Verizon, I'm using an Android based phone. It's got a pretty accurate voice recognition software for voice to text emails, etc. Does the JPhone offer this in the product itself, or are there applications that work well? I'm going to have a tough time leaving the Droid behind if Apple does not offer a strong V2T suite.

Actually, when the 32GB 3Gs first came out... I think they were only in white... so there may be a few men who have them (I would have been but I gave it to my wife).

The only reason why I like this particular white one is because it's less prone to fingerprints and the face is also white so even better (which would show even if you had a case).

The iP4 is supposed to have better battery life according to Jobs and the specs.

If VZW is rolling out LTE by the end of the year, I suspect we may see a VZW iPhone shortly thereafter. But until then, VZW is busting out a Motorola Droid X... 4.4" screen with some nice specs.

I like Android too but what tilted me towards the iP4 was the size and resolution of the screen. Show me an Android with the same form factor and high-rez screen... and I'll buy one of those too (I almost got the Incredible FWIW).

600,000 iPhone pre-ordered... and I don't think this is counting the ones pre-ordered at BestBuy, Radio Shack and Walmart.

Apple is The Irvine Company of cell phones.

My wife called and let me know that mine came in the mail today.  Cant wait to get home and try it out.  I hope my reception is better that my current 3g phone.

Girly-man!

I've read due to production issues, those won't be ready until the second half of July.

They should make clear ones... the front and back are made of glass and that would be so nerdy!

The Droid X has some pretty interesting spec. Might give the Jebus 4 a run for the money.

Have noted many people saying you cannot hold the phone a certain way or it blocks the antenna. Perhaps an Urban Legend from all of the non Apple phone holders. If this is the case, what a marketing blow. A phone you cant use no matter the network. Look forward to hearing real users experiences before my September contract with Vz is up.

It's true.  I was playing with my co worker's new iPhone 4.  When you hold the phone around the metal antenna, the reception gets lower and lower.  I think when skin touches, then it does that.  So when you put a case around it, that should solve the problem.  Nonetheless, that's a pretty bad blow to such a great device.

So maybe the rumors are true... Verizon Iphone 4 in January of 2011  :)

Bloomberg: Verizon iPhone coming in January?
by Marguerite Reardon

Verizon Wireless customers who have been holding out for an iPhone on their carrier's network may finally get their wish early next year, according to Bloomberg News.
The wire service reported on Tuesday that Verizon Wireless will start selling Apple's iPhone in January. Bloomberg cited unnamed sources familiar with the plans. The deal, if true, would end AT&T's exclusive contract for the iPhone in the U.S. since its launch in 2007.
AT&T and Verizon Wireless representatives declined to comment on the latest rumors.
Neither AT&T nor Apple has ever disclosed the length of the exclusive contract AT&T has for the iPhone. But speculation of an impending Verizon iPhone have popped up periodically since the iPhone's runaway success began in 2007. It's been reported that Verizon originally turned down the exclusive rights to offer the phone due to unappealing demands from Apple.
AT&T's network troubles caused by the flood of data traffic created by the iPhone has only exacerbated the demand for a Verizon iPhone.
"If Verizon had the iPhone, I'd find a way to cancel my AT&T service today," said Dave Norfleet-Vilaro, a loyal iPhone subscriber who stood in line early Tuesday morning at an AT&T store to get the iPhone 4. "It's just ironic that I am waiting at an AT&T store where I've received the worst customer service."
Even though Verizon executives have never come out publicly and said the company will eventually offer the iPhone, they have indicated they'd be happy to have the device on their network. And as the largest U.S. carrier, it's a no-brainer that Apple would look to strike a deal with Verizon Wireless once exclusivity ends with AT&T.
It's almost certain that there will be an iPhone for Verizon's network. But the question is when. Despite Bloomberg's report, I believe the new device won't be available in January. It is more likely to be available later in 2011. Here is why.
The biggest reason is that Apple is likely developing a 4G iPhone for Verizon's new network. Not only is that network not yet commercially available, but there are still no products built that can use it.
Verizon is still building and testing the 4G network that uses a technology called LTE or Long Term Evolution. The company says it will be ready to launch the service in 25 to 30 markets by the end of the year. But my guess is that this network will launch toward the end of 2010.
Initially, the network will probably launch with 4G data stick products that fit into laptops. Smartphones that use the 4G network will likely not be available until at least the second half of 2011.
"Based on what we know from some early LTE deployments...availability of LTE chips is still limited," said Lars Johnsson, a vice president of marketing and business development for Beceem, which makes integrated WiMax/LTE 4G chipsets. "Verizon will launch its LTE network later this year. And we will have to see what that means when it happens. But what we've heard from people in the market is that power consumption is still very high for LTE. And the technology still needs to mature. It takes time to work out the kinks."
Chipmakers typically make chipsets for data sticks first, and it takes about a year for manufacturers to get smartphone chips that integrate 3G and 4G services on the market. Considering that 4G LTE data sticks aren't even available yet, it is highly unlikely that Apple could have a 4G iPhone ready for Verizon's network in January.
Of course, Apple may announce a Verizon 4G iPhone in January. The company has been known to make big announcements in January with the actual product launch months later. For example, the original iPhone and iPad were each announced in January, and the devices hit store shelves later that year.
Regardless of when it happens, the iPhone on Verizon will be a big deal. Some AT&T customers who are fed up with AT&T's sluggish 3G performance and dropped calls say they are ready to defect to Verizon Wireless. And many Verizon customers who have been waiting for the AT&T exclusivity contract to end have been biding their time unwilling to give up their service on Verizon for the iPhone."

Of course this would happen...now that I finally don't think I want an iphone anymore, they are [maybe] coming out with it for Verizon!

As a Verizonist I've been waiting years for an iphone because I'm unwilling to switch back to AT&T, which I had years ago and it was horrible. I got a first-gen Blackberry Storm because it was the closest thing I could get to an iphone on Verizon. It's ok, but not as easy to use as the iphone, and no cool apps. But I don't know, I don't think I want an iphone anymore. Part of me just wants to go back to a regular phone. I don't really need a mobile phone with email or internet. It's more of a luxury than a necessity. It would be nice to save $40 a month and not have to pay for a data plan.

Although I wouldn't be surprised if the Verizon iphone doesn't happen at all since there have been rumors about it for years and it hasn't come true yet...

Every Apple store I've called does not have iPhones for walk-ins and drdering online has a 3-week ship date.

Is this ridiculous or what? Even if you wanted one now... you couldn't get one until later... I do think Apple and TIC are the same company.

The sheeple are buying cell phones that you are not allowed to hand hold for $200 a pop--wow, TIC should be proud!

So Apple had a press conference today:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/16/live-from-apples-iphone-4-press-conference

And it looks like FREE CASES for everyone!

I still think this issue was a bit overblown. Ever since phones started using internal antennas, there were always areas of the phone you should not touch... Apple just made the mistake of putting where people could see it and touch it more often.

And fe9000... black looks much better... when the iPhone is locked, it looks like a slab of granite... if you get white... it will have a black square in the middle of your white travertine. Does your home have those travertine floors with black interlays? Heh.

Imagine if all the homes in the 2010 Collection had a problem with their tankless water heater... oh wait... you guys got buttons... just like a case. See... Jobs and Bren are twins.

Yeah, I was actually following the press conference play by play.  It's definitely interesting.  Yes I too believe it's overblown just because it's Apple and they are the biggest target.

The black square in the middle of my white travertine is called "Designers" style.  I would love to have travertine, but can't afford it.  Besides, I DON'T CARE!  I want a white one and I will get a free case even though I won't really use it.

I have much more respect for Jobs, at least "They Love Their Users"!!!  Well, at least they said in the press conference many times, so it must be true.
Unlike Bren, they found the wound so they pour salt, press on it and suck the life out of it.
