134 miles, Irvine -> Newport -> Corona Del Mar -> Laguna -> DP -> SC -> San Onoffre -> Pendleton -> Oceanside and back

I am going to die now. But not before I order a pizza.

PS Looking forward to your write-up Peter.

Wow, POITG! That sounds like quite an oddysey. When you've recovered, can you please post some more route details? Maybe plot it out on map my ride?

Also, any advice you have on things to see or areas where caution is needed would be much appreciated.

Peter's been drinking again. It's San Marco park.

Yesterday's ride was a blast. We took the PCH route through Newport to get our climb on. We re-fueld at a pastry shop in Laguna Beach and then

headed for Dana Point Harbor. We took Laguna Canyon Rd. on the return and sped past all the cars sitting in an endless traffic jam.

Shay and I did the Santiago loop counterclockwise. It was her first time! We even added a few miles onto the finish and it worked out to 41.7 miles.

Looking forward to Solvang!

Finally a chance to add to the write up, but first of all London Rocks! OK, with that out of the way (that had nothing at all to do with last Sunday's ride btw...

Off to an 8:15 Sunday morning roll out

It was a perfect morning for a ride, cool, a nice marine layer..ahhhh...lovely! We set off onto the San Diego River trail towards the Backbay and PCH with Prof, a nice pace, pretty uneventfull, even prof was in a good mood "make the most of it" I was thinking to myself, I noticed a friend on the way there putting his Tandem together so did a quick U-turn, which added another 50 feet to the ride, and had a little chat..

Onto the PCH

Luckily there wasn't much traffic, a lot of People riding, nice!! through Corona del mar, still heading south on the PCH.....I'm doing my best to drop Prof at this point but no Dice, I can still hear her..

On to Crystal Cove

What a view! This is living, the rest is life, the sun is out, a nice cool breeze, the Ocean is Sapphire Blue (I'm making all this up so bear with me), then come the Rollies, a lovely climb, surely I can drop Prof now, apply a couple more watts...nope, She's still there.

Almost peaking the top of another climb and the Cell rings

"Hey, we're in Laguna Beach, where are you"? It was Vic with his lovely SO "Be there in 5 minutes, Bye" well, it's hard to climb on a Bike and talk on the Phone at the same time. So then we rolled down into Laguna, quite a lot of Traffic at this point.

Coffee and Pastries at Scandia Bakery on Forest Ave

Vic and his lovely SO were waiting for us, we have Vic well trained, he already had his Wallet out. I've never seen anyone eat like Prof, she LOVES Pastries, it's incredible!! She reminds us of that Japanese Guy who wins all the Hotdog eating contests. So I'll just leave a space for Ten and POITG to leave their comments ________________________________________ It was funny to watch and Vic said it was the best $45 he'd ever spent, the Pastries kept Her quiet for 5 minutes! By the way Vic, thanks, and yes, you're buying next time too!

Back on the Bikes and on to Dana Point Harbor

OK, so we pull back onto the PCH heading further south, more Traffic now but that's OK, we're used to it...Pedal Pedal Pedal, lots of Traffic Lights but that's OK, we like them, especially when you clip out and immediately you come to a stop, put your foot down they immediately change to Green...oh good!

It's starting to get warm (freakin hot) at this point. Pedal Pedal Pedal etc....

Dana Point Harbor

Phew!! Made it!! We come to a halt, take a quick look at the Boats, take in the view, I remember quipping "Wonder what the poor people are doing today" then "I'm STARVING"!! Guess who? Yep, you were right first time "Get me a Gallon of Ice Cream Limey" yells Prof...So Vic gets His Wallet out again, we had a nice Roast Beef Sandwich, thanks again Vic, and yes.......

It was lovely at the Harbor, a great Sandwich, a good laugh and we were ready to roll again....

Quite a climb out of the Harbor

But we made it to the top, then "I feel sick, I'm gonna puke" Guess who? Yep, you got that one too "Well, maybe you should have guzzled HALF a Gallon of Ice cream" said I. "Shut up Limey"!! was the reply. She's soooo PC our Prof, and that's what I like about Her.

Flat tire time

I forgot to mention, Profs' Tire had been losing air for some time now so we pulled into REVO Cycles in Dana Point, they were kind enough to lend us a Pump..nice Guys.

Back up the PCH to Laguna Canyon Road

Lagune Beach was BUSY man!! Blimey!! Where do all these People COME from??!! So we weave in and out of Traffic, this part wasn't that much fun, sandwiched between parked Cars and Huge stupid Trucks and SUV's with big side mirrors...sheesh!!

Turn right up the Canyon

It was brilliant riding up the Canyon watching miles and miles of almost parked Cars going the opposite direction to that Bottle Neck they call Lagune Beach, that would be the worst part about living there, trying to get back home!!

Anyway, we reach Alton Pkwy, bid farewell to Vic and his Lovely SO and back Home...

A Great ride with Great Friends

Life couldn't be any better.

NB: Prof, don't kill me, I have witnesses

:shut:

The climbs are easier in the CCW direction. Also, Cook's Corner as almost at the halfway point and you can refill your bottles there.

That's true, although I've never done it that way, I always envy those that do though, it always looks like they're having much more fun as they pass in the opposite direction...

One time I did this run I got really sick with Flu/Bronchitis, I was fine when I started the ride, there were about 12 of us, I was soooo sick by the time I reached Cooks Corner I couldn't do the Climb up that road behind Cooks, I can't remember what it's called, a really nice Guy offered to ride home with me back to Irvine and I gladly accepted, half way back I just wanted to get off the Bike and sleep in the Grass...

Good write-up Peter.

Next time I go riding with you and Prof will have to be on Halloween, since its the only time I won't feel guilty for joining in and eating buckets of ice cream and other junk food...Here's an idea--how about an on-the-bike eating contest. We can have a sag vehicle pass out ice cream and chocolate bananas with sprinkles the whole way down to DP and the first to keel over and slam into a parked car loses!

Hahaha! Good one PO! Problem is, every ride with Prof is like Halloween *chuckle* if we can lay of the Donuts, Ice Cream and Pastries for once will you ride with us again? It will save Vicstah a lot of money...

Hmmm, making fun of us on this thread, and yet on another thread:

"Golden (s)Poon is way more technologically advanced when it comes to serving ice cream as they use polystyrene thermal insulation (aka styrophoam). Most people don?t think about the thermodynamics of eating ice cream, but well, its a shame to waste good ice cream, and nobody likes gummy bear soup!"

So, don't pretend you are Mr. Healthfood, POITG!

Eff, I think POITG was refering to my Dana Point write-up which was of course greatly exagerated...in fact our 7C's ride reports have become more and more outlandish as time goes by....I'm constantly making fun of People (that I like)....

Yeah but at least I don't eat my ice cream on bike rides...

I saw the 7Cs ice cream truck sag wagon on the street today today and took a photo...
