Step Brothers.
1/5 stars

I love Will Farrell in other things but this movie made me want to give myself a DIY lobotomy. Sooo lame. The only semi-entertaining part is where the guys try to prevent their parents from selling their home by pulling stunts during the realtor's showings to prospective buyers like: pretending they are a Nazi neighbor, or a White Knight / KKK neighbor who waves a friendly hello as he's trimming his hedges while dressed in full hood & robe, or a dead body (one of the guys playing dead) in the entry way due to asbestos in the home.

This is generally why I never go to the theater. It has to be GOOD if you're going to spend the time and money. I almost deleted this movie half-way through.

Definitely not one of Ferrell's finest performances...Anchorman 2 is coming out soon.. btw.. anyone here went to school with him at Uni?

Pacific Rim - Out on DVD 9/10

Wish I saw this in the theaters... probably the best movie of the summer for me. Brings me back to the days of Johnny Socko.

Also saw Pacific Rim, better than I thought, definitely recommended, especially if you like big mechs. 8/10.

White House Down - 6/10 - not bad, but I liked Olympus Has Fallen more.

The Internship - 7/10 - pretty good, made me feel old, nice infomercial for working at Google.  The scene at the strip club was the best.  ;D

9/10

"Pan's Labyrinth" on iTunes. Loved this film ever since seeing it in the theaters. Not for kids per se (over 12'ish it's fine) and it's subtitled.

If you saw the latest Simpsons "Treehouse of Horrors" intro, you'll know what the cultural references were to the film.

My .02c

Now that the summer movies are coming out on DVD, I've been able to catch up on some:

World War Z: 8/10
Interesting take on the zombie genre. As a whole, I dislike fast zombies because it doesn't make sense (well, undead doesn't make sense)... and these zeds can fly. Nothing like the book.

Is This The End: 5/10
Kind of funny. Slow in some parts but the premise is actually interesting. You have to be a fan of the Seth Rogen/Jonah Hill type movies to enjoy it. At least it was better than The Watch (2/10).

Stardust: 6/10
Saw this old movie with the kids. Strange seeing A-list actors in different parts... even a pre-Man of Steel. There is quite a bit of violence so I wouldn't recommend it for the younger ones (wish we would have known that before).

LEGO: Marvel Super Heroes: Maximum Overload (on Netflix): 9/10
Not really a movie (only 22 minutes long) but if you have kids who like Legos and super heroes, this is a must-watch. It's almost like an Avenger 2 movie but in Legos.

Home front - 8/10. Standard beat downs by statham. Good watch.
So that was the "his" movie... what was the "hers"? Best Man Holiday? Catching Fire? Or is Statham neutral ground?

Catching fire 9/10 - surprisingly much better than I thought.

I've read Catching Fire is better than the first, we usually watch movies on TDay too... but went walking to burn off all the food rather than sit on our back ends for another 2 hours.

Yeah I would agree with that. It's over two hours but didn't feel like it

my criteria for watching a movie - "would any of the expendables possibly star in this movie?"

if you have to think about it, the answer is no.

this is a pretty good criteria. i may have to steal this.  at least i would get to watch future Statham movies.

Went an saw "The Monuments Men" on Friday.  Really wanted to like it and have that combination, drama, revulsion and inspiration all done passionately a la "Schindler's List"

The Monuments Men is not that.  Not even close, written, directed and acted with all the passion and drama of an 8th grade history textbook.

Slow is the best way to describe the movie going experience, like slogging through several chapters of that fondly remembered junior high textbook.

Overall, 3.0 out of 10.  Frankly, most of the stuff on History Channel is done better.

The Lego Movie - 7.5/10

You would think I would like this considering the high rating I gave Lego Marvel Super Heroes movie on Netflix but I guess I expected too much from it. It started off really slow for me and it wasn't until Batman showed up that I woke up.

The kids obv give it a 10/10 and "Everything Is Awesome" is a catchy tune, but Frozen need not worry. The movie does tend to bring up the word "butt" quite a bit... maybe qwerter helped with script approval.

Noah - 2/10

First off, this is not a family film. Lots of violence... the first half is like a Lord of The Rings movie (yes, there are giant rock creatures) and the second half is so dark and dreary the movie ends up depressing you.

There were some parts that were nice and it obviously takes a huge leap in artistic license but if you are looking for an uplifting story about a family surviving an apocalyptic event, this is not it.

The funny thing is there are complaints by religious groups that it doesn't follow the Biblical story but it actually does in many parts and is very thematic towards a "God" theme (referenced as The Creator).

You should have seen divergent instead
8/10

I want to see sabotage next.
Surprised you didn't see Sabotage AND Divergent... but I guess having a young-un at home changes double feature night.

I kept trying to force Sabotage but that means the Mrs. would be stuck in Muppets Most Wanted with the kids.

So we thought Noah would be a movie that the whole family could watch... how wrong we were.
