Flight - 8/10.

I like Soylent Red's take: "I thought we were watching a movie about a plane crash, not a trainwreck?!?" If you've seen it, you may understand the reference.

Oblivion:  7/10.  Good sci-fi movie and decent plot.

42:  4/10...pretty disappointing.  I love Jackie Robinson but the movie was pretty mediocre.

Speaking of movies, how do you go to them? I don't remember. It has been several years since I have been to a movie theater. I can't remember the last movie I saw. Maybe seen one movie in the last ten years. I am taking my young charges to the movies today.

- How long do previews run?

- Is the "start" time of the movie, when the actual movie begins or the previews?

- Does the running time include credits?

Thnx!

@SoCal:

Are you Amish?

- Previews run about 15-20 minutes.

- Start time is the previews start time.

- Yes, I believe running time of a film includes credits

For popular films, you should try to get there at least half an hour before the start time or it will be hard for you to find seats. For films that have been out for a while, you can get there at start time, or 15 minutes later if you want to skip previews.

Hard to believe your boys haven't asked to go to a movie theater.

I know Foothill Ranch has a movie theater (I think it's a big AMC one).

So what was that ONE movie that got you out of your cave in the last 10 years?

Is it Planes?  Is that out?
Planes is out today.

But I'm asking SoCal what was that one movie she saw in a theater the last 10 years. Maybe it was BK (before Kids)... so like Casino Royale. :)

2Guns - 8/10

This is the buddy cop action flick with Marky Mark and Denzel.
Pretty entertaining.  I saw it at Cinepolis which was awesome.  Comfy seats,  waiter service and pre-selected seats make me never want to go back to watching a movie at a regular theater again.

I forget, what are the ticket prices for Cinepolis? And how are the food prices?

Too bad there is no Costco discount tickets for there. :)

It's a Regal Cinema. I just got back from there right now. We saw Despicable Me 2.

I don't remember which one. It was some kind of kid movie. My boy says it was the Cars movie (2006) but I have no recollection. Most movies are forgettable to me.

Yeah, right. You'd have to go back further than that. BK for me is prior to 2003! I got an early start! The last non-kid movie I think I saw in the theater was "Almost Famous" with Kate Hudson back in 2000(?!?!!) It's been so long that I forgot what it's like to go watch a movie that isn't an animated / kid film. One day...

The Wolverine.  Meh.  Formulaic and predictable.  Hugh Jackman is a good wolverine but if the plot sucks, then no manner of great acting can overcome a poor plot.  Wait for Blu-Ray.

How was Planes?  I didn't like my child watching Cars 2... Any disturbing cartoony scenes in Planes?
I never saw Cars 2, so I'm not sure which parts might have been inappropriate for PS9.1...
I am biased, as we got to view the movie "premiere-style" with a client that is the voice one of the main characters.  We loved it for that reason. Very cool to see his career skyrocketing.

Storyline wasn't too far from Cars (why mess with success). Theme of working together even while competing against each other seemed good enough for me. Subtle subtheme of PEDs and disqualifications (Hi LiveStrong and A-Rod!) briefly and lightly touched on.

Finally someone who agrees with me on this!

For me to invest 2 hrs and $15 on a movie, it has to be interesting.  I don't care who is in it, what the producer or director is... but if the story is dumb, then its not worth my time.

That amount of time and money = a six pack of good brew.

I liked the movie overall, everything was pretty enjoyable except the last scene.
