The Vow 7/10 (Mrs. ps9 ranks it 10/10)

Tatum in a chick flick is to me a miscast but at least it's not a romcom...  Decent for a "kid went to bed early, let's watch a weeknight movie by ourselves" type of thing..  I didn't fall asleep, so thumbs up.

On Netflix:

2012: Zombie Apocalypse - 1/10

Horrible movie... it only got a 1 because there were zombies. I don't understand how movies like these get made... I know for sure I can write a better one. There was no conflict, no romance, no "I'm worried" moments... it was very bland. Gah.

On DVD/BluRay:

Underworld: Awakening - 7/10

I'll admit it... I like vampire movies (except for Twilight). Vampire movies with werewolves is a bonus... and with Kate Beckinsale is even better. I actually am a fan of the Underworld movies and this one was more interesting because it was less Romeo/Juliet than the previous ones. Good action but a little light on storyline.

Waiting for Superman 2/10.

Mostly nothing to relate to. Like our children live in land of fairy tales most of us live in our own bubble..competition for us is mostly who got all A+s as opposed plain As, or whose kid is already into Calculus/whose kid is taking it easy with Algebra. I am thinking.. I should make a documentary about Tiger Mothers in Northwood High..

surprised you rated it so low.  i work in education around the world and that movie really struck a nerve with a lot of people.  did you not like it or rated low cause it was unrelatable to irvine/oc folks

snatch is finally on netflix - 10/10 - love all the guy ritchie films

also on netflix, indie film: Submarine - 8/10.  i was pleasantly surprised

Last week:

Battleship - 5/10
Hokey premise... looked like they were trying to do more but ran out of movie. Save your money until it come out on DVD or streaming.

This week:

Snow White and the Huntsmen - 5/10
I didn't like it that much... my wife did (she was the one who dragged me to the Spectrum to watch it). Okay re-telling but no real twists in the story and not very much in terms of conflict or romance. Another waiter.

Die Hard (on Blu Ray) 10/10

This is definitely on my top ten list.  Enjoy it every time I watch it, tons of great one liners...

My fav is McClane's response to the police operator:  "No fucking shit, lady.  Does it sound like I'm ordering a pizza?"

MIB III  (8/10)

Pretty much a retread. If you like the genre (as I do) it's worth your $12.00. A eye moistening plot twist at the end wrapped up the storyline.

What was great is spending $21.00 at the Newport Island Cinemas and having no one under 21 in the theater. Everyone enjoyed the movie. There wasn't a mid movie phone ringing or people "live-blogging" during the film. Had a drink brought to our chair mid way through the picture. If you're there to see a film and not listed to people chit chat during the movie, pay the extra $10.00 or so and see it that way.

My .02c

live blogging during a film!  yikes i would go nuts if that person was sitting any where near me

Wife and I finally stuck the baby with my Mom and we saw Avengers. Lots of action. Little character development. Surprisingly funny though. 3/5

We also caught Coco Before Chanel. Some poor acting, poorer writing, but salvaged by Audrey Tautou. 3/5.

Thanks for reminding me... I didn't realize I didn't post for Avengers here.

The Avengers - 7/10
The premise didn't make sense (Loki's motives) but Whedon did a good job characterizing the various spandexters. It dragged a little in the middle but the action scenes were good (better than Michael Bay's overly confusing Transformers action scenes). There were some plot holes but overall a good summer movie and even kid-friendly (they were the ones who actually asked to watch it).

It's amazing how much money it's making, when we were at the Spectrum last weekend, the showtimes for Avengers were still selling out.

we watched 1 bollywood movie on netflix and now our netflix is full of bollywood flicks.  wondering if its cause of that 1 movie or cause we are in irvine.  do you guys get bollywood movies in your netflix suggestions??  need to figure out how to clear the netflix "cache" and reteach it

Madagascar 3 - 8/10

Best one in the series... good for kids and adults... lots of small funny parts you need to pay attention to.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop

Cute movie for when you want a fluff piece to park your brain in idle with. Didn't have time to sit through all of it, though, so I can't really give it a rating. I like Kevin James. Watching the movie really made me miss the late, great Chris Farley. He would have been good in the mall cop role.

Good thing you didn't finish it... it wasn't that good to me. The funniest parts are whatever they showed you in the previews.

I like Kevin James too, esp in The King of Queens, Hitch and the badly reviewed I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry... but Paul Blart has kept me from watching his latest, The Zookeeper.

On DVD:

Act of Valor - 5/10

Although it was cool that real SEALs were the actors and seeing how their missions come about and what they do... the story fell flat and I couldn't connect with the characters. My dad recommended it... I should have known it wouldn't be that good.

The Grey - C

I like Liam Neeson but this movie is hard too watch...here's my summary..

"Plane crash!, we survived!, wolves!, munch munch snarl, blood in snow, repeat."

What a way to die.. worst was the guy who fell off the tree and saw an image of his little girl...but then it was actually...
