Official IHB Dining Club

Per Zovall's permission (<a href="http://www.irvinehousingblog.com/forums/viewthread/2468/#57319">link</a>), I'm starting the "Official" IHB Dining Club.

The current plans are:

* Meet twice per month, once on a weekday (Thursday?), and once on a weekend.

* New restaurant with every meet.

* Restaurant menu items must be reasonably priced and legal.

* "Catch and Cook" & "Shop and Cook" events (weekends only).

Per suggestions made in previous "unofficial" thread, I'd suggest for the month of July, we do 1 x wine tasting and 1 x restaurant run.

For wine tasting, BevMo on Saturday, and Hi-Time Cellar in Costa Mesa has been suggested by NoWowway and CM_Dude.

For restaurant run, I think acpme wanted to try the sweet potato pizza in Garden Grove. @_@

The above are just suggestions -- we're open to any other ideas that you may have!

i'm open to that pizza place or quite frankly most of the other places you've posted about. korean food for bix would be a good idea too.

perhaps you could start a poll with a few suggestions on the week of the events. close the poll a few days before the event and just let majority rules.

suggest us to consider places in Irvine or very close to Irvine for weekday events. driving to GG after work will be hell on 405 or 5.

I think we'd probably save the GG or BP trips for weekend.

Right now I'm trying to figure out how we can do a "catch and cook" and "buy and cook" event. Where would we find the kitchen facilities to accommodate multiple cooks at same time?

We could do "surprise ingredient" for "IHB Iron Chef" events, if the kitchen facilities were avail. My kitchen is way too small.

<a href="http://foodfrenzy.freedomblogging.com/2008/04/30/fried-chicken-frenzy-3-bbq-chicken/">Here you go. </a> FYI, there is another chicken place in the same plaza. BBQ is located close (next to?) the Big O Tires.

If you have a day off or can otherwise go for lunch on a weekday, it's not very crowded then.

it sounds like that fried chicken place (or something similar) is opening at the diamond plaza. there's also going to be a cajun seafood place. several of these seafood boil-style restaurants are very popular in the westminister area right now.

There are 2 boiling crabs near here and both are in Garden Grove. One is on Euclid and the other Brookhurst.

The Euclid one is usually less crowded. I've eaten there couple of times and their spice level is pretty good. A buddy of mine is part-owner of Club Xile event in the same shopping center on Wednesday evenings 9pm-2am if anyone is into industrial/goth/darkwave/etc. http://www.clubxile.com/

Is anybody up for the 4th dinner party? Let me know, my wife will have to work that day.

I have to attend a BBQ that evening. :(

I'll be working (but strategically parked directly above the Hollywood Bowl to catch the fireworks)....life is tough sometimes. ;-P

Oh darn it! More cool stuff happening that I can't attend! Unless we pick kid-friendly restaurants, that is. So, perhaps we can alternate between Wednesday and Thursday nights, so that I can attend every once in a while? (I have my freedom on Wednesdays and every other Saturday but I have a feeling that my free weekends will turn out to be on the wrong weekends to join the group.)

It was very nice meeting everybody. I was quite suprised that Eva's hubby has wicked quiet humor....

Take it easy and don't work too hard.

I ordered a diet soda. First refill was a diet soda. Second refill was regular soda. Third refill was iced tea. In the same glass. Iced tea + Pepsi = :-(

Eva - I'll take you up on that offer! :) I'm on vacation next week (hiking in Utah!) and the week after I have my monthly facial scheduled at FaceLogic in the District...but August forward is looking very good. Any other ladies interested in a Wednesday evening IHB girls' night out? (Keep in mind I'm not talking about partying hard or anything... :red:
