$8M year is not a step down
If it was just about the money, I wouldn't be living in Irvine.
I'm with IHO. Rather take a pro job. Preferably one with stable ownership like Giants, steelers, etc. Is michigan even a hot bed for HS football? Seems like recruiting isn't a no brainer there.
every coaching job is only a matter of time before you get fired. why not collect $8M year to be the man in charge, he will call all the shots. In the pros very few coaches have that luxury. He will turn the program around and in 4-5 years he will say "my job is done here" and go take a job in the pros. At the pro level its all about the quarterback, much less so in college. there are no good NFL jobs open this year, the one opening with the best quarterback is probably atlanta. I think there is less pressure to win in college than in the NFL, definitely less crazy hours. If he has a shitty season next year the built in excuse is there (it was Hoke's players, etc). Also, how is it better to earn $5M vs $8M? what is so much better about the pros to pass up that much money?
