Well... I think the way that works out is they could trade Nash after this season if they can make a deal.
Nash still wants to play, and they might be able to get that $9m off the books if they can put a package together... but why any team would want Nash at that price is beyond me. I think they can also waive him and hope someone picks him up to reduce that $9m (some formula that probably only Tyler knows).
So basically, they were trying not to end Nash's career in hopes he could return or they could work something out.
But yes, it doesn't seem like they are making smart moves in the front office however if you look at it, when Kobe's and Nash's salaries clear after next season, they could sign TWO good free agents for 15-16 and will also have at least one draft pick from this season getting better and maybe another next season.
