Unfortunately elite IT job reqs aren't flowing any longer from companies. Our candidate database is indeed swelling while the jobs database is shrinking every day. We just had another high-end perm opportunity for a big OC employer go busto due to budget constraints. That is the 2nd one in as many months...

Not to hijack this thread, but with the amount of money the Yankees will be spending this offseason, I will be amazed if they do not overtake the red sox/devil rays and eventually the angels and become champs of 09!

You're right - we haven't been here long enough to know if we liked it or not.

We've been here four years, and we've just started getting comfortable with the area and people.

I will miss California, but deep down I know I'm a Bostonian through and through.

The weather may suck at times, but it's where we belong - it's home.

Fenway Pahk here we come! :coolgrin:

P.S. We need to think of a new name for me.

Since I'm not living in California I can't be CalGal any more. :shut:
 
CalGal, you must be awfully excited to be going back home and presumably back to your family. My husband is from Connecticut. All of his family is there. It is hard on him and us. We're isolated way out here. I'm a little envious of your upcoming move! You do have a lot to look forward to!
 
CalGal, sorry to hear about the relocation. I am sad that you are leaving... Who else am I going to chat about silly sports stuff around here? :(

We moved to California because my husband took the position to manage the west coast for his company.

Then about six months ago, his company reorged and they fired a few people

and gave Mr. CalGal the entire country (more work while cutting his pay).

They cut everyone's salary pretty drastically - we think it was to get people to leave.

So, now that he had the entire country, we could live anywhere in the country.

It made more sense for us to be near the NY Home office.

Dealing with an east-coast home office on Eastern Time was difficult being on the west coast.

They would schedule conference calls at 5 am PCT, etc.

So, we planned on moving to the east coast in the spring.

But, things can change rather quickly.

But we're OK - we always tell ourselves that someone else has it A LOT worse than we do.

We have no right complaining at all - we've been blessed with a good life and good health.

It's just a change - we'll deal with it on a day-to-day basis.

I have not only the whole country, but also Latin America and the Carribean and I work for a New Zealand company. So you have travel, but then you have days where you start at 5:00 am and finish at 8:00 pm. However, there is some flexibility. My hubby hates my hours sometimes, but there are many days where it's super flexible. I don't think I could go back to a normal 8-5 office job.
 
Bummer Calgal and Calguy. I feel for you as I too am in the finance biz. Best of luck with the interviews and the move. Luckily the internet works in all states. Sorry you never made it up for the Naples boat parade. It's next week. I thought everyone was coming up....hopefully you can make another time

What markets (i.e. segment of the IT industry) do you work in? Though I am not looking, I still get contacted by numerous recruiters every day.

It can be done. Most can park at my house on the Island and can ferry by boat to my dock on Bayshore

40% of our business is Oracle, Peoplesoft, and JDE consulting/consultants/projects. The remaining 60% is all IT staffing/recruiting, from CIO/VP level on down to desktop support jockeys. We work primarily in four metros, SoCal, Charlotte, Phoenix, and Denver.

Thanks. I can understand the ERP business taking a hit. With the time and money commitments involved, the current uncertainty in the economy has to take a toll. Plus with the rise of Software as a Service companies like Netsuite and CRM, the idea of engaging in multi-year multi-million dollar software implementations is less attractive.

But that's not the area I work in.

I do specialized applications that are targeted to a specialized market niche. So far recruiters are still actively trying to get me to jump.

Netsuite ROCKS! Full blown all in one Accounting/WEB/ERP application to take care of the little guys like me. I remember implementing SAP and Peoplesoft working for Accenture ten years ago. I hated by job with a passion.
