It's official. We are in a recession.

CalGal, I am sorry to the news. Is there anything you can do to convince your husband to stay in Coto and tough it out? I promise not ask any more annoying questions on the IHB.

Well, even CalGal and Mr. CalGal weren't spared.

Mr. CalGal got "The Call" today and got laid off.

We knew it would only be a matter of time since he's in the financial world, and everyone is getting touched somehow.

Thankfully we live way below our means, so we should be OK.

They did offer him another position within the company, so he'll probaby take that job.

But we'll have to say bye-bye to beautiful Coto and Southern California.

Thanks IR and the IHB gang for keeping us from buying a house!

This economy sucks! :shut:</blockquote>

I know the feeling. Laid off just before Thanksgiving myself, for the second time this year.

Best of luck

How long do you think he can go? I'd give it 2 days.

CalGal no matter what you really do, please just post that you convinced your husband to stay :) You can tell everyone else what you did via PM

Good luck!

sorry you two

but no reason not to keep up with IHB. it is entertaining, and still has lots of non-location specific info!

Sorry about the news, CalGal. Everything will work out for the best. Hope you will still swing by every now and then.

Sorry to hear your news CG. At least Brady will be back next year!

[quote author="irvinefsbo" date=1228226908]Sorry to hear about Mr. CalGal. It's tough to lose a job in this economy. As long as he likes the company, another position may be wise for now. Just be sure he gets a 2 week break.

I have been recruiting for an entry level IT position, and we are getting 200 resumes a week. But now, we have a hiring freeze, so no position at all.

I don't see why this Dec 2007 recession is news. I mean if they can't figure out that we are in a recession until a year later, why do we care?

For all we know, next year, they will be saying we are in a deflationary economy! Duh! Why does this even make news?

irvinefsbo</blockquote>

You need to let my company do that for you FSBO... Why do all that resume review, interviewing, etc? Such a waste of time. Just let a good IT staffing company handle that for you and produce a couple of stellar candidates to chose from.

CalGal, I'm so sorry you have to go through all that during this economic climate. You're right it sucks, it double sucks when you are in the industry your husband is in. I think only people who worked for homebuilders could have it worse, they have been continuously laying people off since 2005, and some have seen over a 75% reduction in staff.

You haven't even been here long enough to know for sure whether you love or hate OC.Although, from your posts, I could tell you missed living back east. I'm sad to see you go. I didn't even get to meet you and your husband, and looking at your move date, it looks like I will have to let you know when I will be in the New England area to get to meet you both. Mmmm... when will you be having a clam bake?

Just because you are moving across the country doesn't mean you need to leave the online community you have found here. You have been a long time contributor here, and you have contributed a lot of great info. Just because it is the "Irvine" housing forums it doesn't mean you have to live there to contribute, because neither you, nor I would be allowed then. Plus it would be great to have someone updating us on the east coast housing market. If we have been your psychiatrists lately, then you can still come here and complain about the weather there. Don't know how much empathy you will receive, but you might find some. But, I am sure there will be more important things you will be dealing with, and we will still be here when you need us to be.

As far as sports...

Football: Just remind us we don't have a team. Or, say... USC is not part of the NFL, that doesn't count.

Baseball: The Red Sox have the Angels' number. I have no defense to this, and I am still scarred from Hendu back in 86. I would rather play the Yankees in the playoffs, because we kick their a$$. Plus, many fans here are fair weather fans, and if the Angels sucked, attendance would be down. Red Sox fans are die hard fans. I went to game at Fenway in 98, when the Sox sucked, and it was one of the funnest baseball games I have been to. I will always have the memory of that game, and chanting "Yankees suck!" when they were playing the Devil Rays. Oh... and the fight that broke out because the Sox fan poured his beer on the girl who was dumb enough to wear a Yankees cap in Fenway.

Basketball: The Lakers will beat the Celtics for the world championship this year. Just succumb to the inevitable, and start to try to deal with the pain sooner rather than later. I promise, it will make it hurt less if you start to deal with it now. See... you can't leave, I don't know anyone else who is a Celtics fan, and I need at least one fan to pick on.

In theory, elite IT candidates are falling from trees right now. Storage Admins are working for $12/hr and break-fix can be had for minimum wage!
