While I agree with most of what reason said, this comment "You won’t see your love ones for years" is simply not true. With jail overcrowding what it is, he would get a couple of weeks tops.... that is, if he didn't work out a plea agreement with X amount of community service hours.

It's wishful thinking that people who commit crimes will actually serve the suggested sentence.

Seriously? Assault and battery will only get you weeks? What if the guy presses for assault with a deadly weapon such as the use of a baseball bat? If that's the case of our jail system, I guess it's a free for all then.

The dude's check came today... I went the good karma route and gave him a call. Let him have it some on the phone, e.g. "Because I'm a better person than you, I'll give your check although you probably don't deserve it". He made the requisite grand apologies, offered to take me and the wife out to dinner (yeah right, wouldn't that be fun, NOT!), etc. so I'll take the check along with me to work and let him come pick it up I guess. I'd still like to throttle the guy, as to me mail is sacred, but since I'm higher up on the food chain I should act like it...

You're going to let him know where you live AND where you work? Why not just forward it to an address? That should be sufficient and you won't have to see the guy again. I'll offer courier service if you need.

LOL, yeah Panda, fly on out here and help out ole IPO! If I can survive my high school, I think I can handle one cash-needy FOB chinese dude solo... I just checked that stats on my HS via greatschools.net, 72% latino, 17% african-american, 8% white, less than 1% asian. Numbers have shifted over the years, but it was still very much like that when I was there. The area around the high school is primarily controlled by a gang named Mount Vernon, an affiliate of a large and powerful IE gang called Verdugo Flats. The Crips and Bloods don't like it, but the chicano gangs rule San Bernardino county. You learn a few things about protecting yourself when you go to school in the bario.
