7 circles members... I need your help

"They have no brakes and run via a direct drive mechanism?no slack-legged freewheelin' for our well-heeled trendy types, just a lot of arse-over-tit skid stops and plenty of more-fashionable-than-thou looks at the stop lights, assuming they bother to stop at the lights. And that's kind of rare. Stopping is kind of difficult on a fixie. But everyone cool is riding a fixie these days..." <a href="http://thepolishedturd.blogspot.com/2007/07/pet-peeve-fixie-bikes.html">Linky</a>

<em>Roll into the haughty arrogance that comes with being hipper than anyone else on the street the kind of sanctimony expressed by far too many bicyclists. You're both pushing the limits of fashion AND kidding yourself that you're saving the planet. It's a great mix. The end result is perhaps the most obnoxious group of riders on the road, SUV drivers included.</em>

'bout sums it up...

I said single speed, not fixie--big difference, especially when you're a clyde like myself.

For the most part, suburban fixies are for 115lb featherweight boys that like to wear their sister's jeans.

Hmmm, aside from the fact that fixie riders wear pants belonging to siblings, how does one distinguish between

these two bikes? They both sound kinda FTL to me.

?Give me but one firm spot on which to stand, and I will move the earth.?

They look identical, however, a single speed bike has a freewheel on the back, allowing you to stop your pedaling motion. Single speeders also have brakes (duh what a great idea) instead of back pedaling and skidding.

I ride a <a href="http://www.bikeradar.com/gallery/article/specialized-langster-london-12134?img=2&pn=langster&mlc=gear/bikes/road/article">Langster "London"</a> to work and love it, it's geared for Irvine, it's a very quick Bike and Ultra quiet. It has a flip-flop Hub so it can either be a Fixie or Single Speed...I haven't bothered to put Clipless Pedals on it yet just some cheapo plastic Pedals but I guess I'll get around to it...but it's nice to do a Trackstand at the Lights without fear of falling under a Car whilst clipped in...

It's a blast to ride, you should come round and take it for a spin Eff.

You're right IR, I've thought about it and have decided to send Vicstah to some CPR classes, just in case Fletcher Jones Jnr isn't available to take care of Him...

I just need to make sure I take a Camera on every ride now just in case....</blockquote>

Peter, if he?s there I?ll introduce you.

They?re trying to unload the '08s to make room for the '09s.

Now?s a good time to upgrade that lowly Jag.

They Finance!

Thanks for the offer Ten but I don't drive a Jag anymore, in fact, I hardly drive my latest little ride either, it turned 4800 miles yesterday after 15 months...and it's on it's second Oil change..
