NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Damn, even Costco is hating on Tesla now. Connect, my car insurance through Costco, just increased my insurance from $1183 to $2157. I was shocked when I saw the Renewal Declaration.

Prius Prime:
Bodily injury premium went from $304 to $394
Collision premium went from $218 to $297
Both seem reasonable

Model 3:
Bodily injury premium went from $255 to $755
Collision premium went from $324 to $584

That's just crazy. I guess I'll have to call Mercury to see if I get a better deal, with the home coverage as well.

You'd be surprised how many non-1%ers drive EVs.

You still think they cost $100k. :)

That looks like an elitist 1% to me…🤷🏽‍♂️😂

According to an Experian Automotive report on electric vehicles, out of the 292.3 million cars and trucks on the road in the U.S. in 2024, approximately 4,092,200 (1.4%) of those were electric cars. This number is up from 2 million electric vehicles in 2022 and 1.3 million in 2021.

1%: Only around 1% of all vehicles driven in the United States are electric vehicles, despite significant growth.

  • 903,620: The number of electric vehicles registered in California reached a high of 903,620 by the end of 2022.

People who bought Teslas to virtue signal are paying a steep price in depreciation and heart burn.

In Marin County, There’s Trouble in Teslaville

Ms. Goldman is the author of “What To Do When You’re Dating a Jew,” which includes everything from matzo ball recipes to the meanings of Yiddish terms. She considers Mr. Musk “a Nazi,” she said, for his support for Germany’s far-right party and for his stiff arm salutes during one of Mr. Trump’s inaugural parties. (Mr. Musk has disputed his arm gesture was a Nazi salute, calling the accusation “dirty tricks.”)

We could have just as easily gotten a Hyundai,” Ms. Goldman said. “I feel like a jerk.”

Others share the sentiment.

Terry Ross, a retired lawyer, has lived in Mill Valley for 54 years and said he loves that it has retained its character. He bought his red Model 3 in 2022 for about $64,000, but said that he put his car up for sale after he saw Mr. Musk give that salute. Six days later, a used car company hauled it away.

He received $28,000. {LL: So 56% depreciation in 3 years. Ouch!}

“Bottom line,” Mr. Ross said, “I had to get rid of that thing as soon as I could.”

Carter Zinn, a Mill Valley-based lawyer, leased his Tesla two years ago and recently thought about driving it to the dealership and setting it on fire because he found Mr. Musk’s politics so loathsome.

{LL: It's incredible how easily these people are manipulated by the media. Most of them need treatment for mental health problems.}

There are plenty of people on the left doing the same "Nazi Salute" gesture. Does so.eone suffering from TDR care? Of course not. The AfD a "far right" political party? The one that's led by a female lesbian married to a non German female... That AfD? Please.

Meanwhile, anyone wanting a slightly used Tesla is in for some pretty sweet bargains. Here's a 2024 Tesla, loaded with aftermarket features, and just 4,300 miles that just sold for $78k - about 50k less than it cost is my guess

From the mouths of babes (or Electrek)….Like I told you….Doomed!🤦🏽‍♂️😂😂😂👎🏽

Ford’s EV sales fell by 40% in April and now it’s killing off another major project

Ford ends another EV project as sales slip

Ford sold 208,675 vehicles in the US last month, a 16% increase from the same period last year and a new April record. Electrified vehicle sales, including EVs and hybrids, rose 8.4%. However, it was Ford’s gas-powered trucks and SUVs that drove the growth.

I'd like to see a barebone Ford Maverick Hybrid priced at $20,000.

By barebone, I mean like Slate model with manual window cranks and door locks, no built in infotainment except for cell phone or tablet holder and USB connection at the dashboard. Manually adjusted chairs. Minimalist interior, bring your own floor mats.

The profit margin will come from wide variety of upgrade options that customers can choose and pay for, if they wish.

Rivian looking better... R2 will help and Scarange not being Elon doesn't hurt:

The main headline of Rivian’s Q1 2025 was its gross profit of $206 million. That marks the American automaker’s second consecutive quarter of reporting gross profit as well as its highest to date.

I think Telo may have an interesting product... it's not $20k cheap but may hit a segment that still haven't been filled.

Kind of reminds me of the defunct Canoo so I hope they don't go the same route.

I'm definitely interested in R2, but will have to wait and see what it's priced at.
