Vizio 80" TV Costco 10/3-10/27

This was too funny not to throw in here

'I was going to send my two kids to college but I knew I had to do what was best for my family so I got this beast instead,' a reviewer named Greg wrote. 'I'm fairly positive my wife will end up coming back, I'm sure she'll realize how unreasonable she was being. Marriage for 20 years or a TV that's 85 inches? Last time I checked, 85 is bigger than 20.'

At typical full HD (1080) resolution, I find the upper bound of enjoyable viewing to be in the 55-60 inch range.  Over that and JMO, the picture quality suffers from visible granularity at all but the farthest viewing ranges.

How's the new TV?  Install went ok?

Yeah I love the TV.  My wife says she can watch TV while cooking without a problem now hahaha.

I ended up hanging up the TV with my brother in law.  It wasn't hard installing the mounts, only difficult part was lifting the TV up onto the mount.

Highly recommend the tV

I find that buying open box, returns or display TVs at Costco have the best prices.

They are usually 20% off Costco's already low price and if there is a manufacturer rebate, it's really cheap. The bonus is you have a 45-day return policy, free 2nd year warranty and since it's open box, an extra Square Trade warranty to 5 years included.

I've been Costco hunting and it seems like Tustin Marketplace has the best deals. It's good to go after big sales like Black Friday or Christmas because returns are higher. My friend said his brother got a 55" SmartTV 6000 series Sammy for $550... WHAT?

i knew you could do it.  if you failed in that effort, i would force you to watch mcgyver until you could build something useful.

LOL... I'm just really lazy with home improvement or handyman work..

One month with the Vizio:

+
decent pic with adjustments
like the qwerty remote

-
viewing angle is more limited than my old Sony
TV shuts off mysteriously & have to press button on remote to refresh screen, seems like power saver mode?
not so Smart:  Netflix app tend to freeze TV (how do you control/alt/delete a TV?)

For the price I can't complain, throwing the box away this week.

Isn't Vizio headquartered in Irvine.  Hey you are helping the Irvine economy.  Buy VIZIO!.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vizio

They also use to make those Princeton monitors and is owned by a Taiwanese guy.

Disclosure: I have a Samsung

I know people that work there, small margins and shitty pay. I guess the shitty pay is expected with an Asian owner

Nice price. Is there much 4k material to watch in 2014 or does this tv just future proof me?

I'm still waiting to throw away my money on a real Apple TV.

Netflix also announced 4k streaming. Now just need to get Cox to remove their ridiculous 250gb monthly caps.

This price point breaks the chicken/egg cycle for 4k. With enough households, content will come. Remember much content is scanned (film) or recorded (digital) in 4k, it's just released in 2k....

I have Cox and didn't know they cap our high speed internet to 250g/month. I had to google it. Cox internet uses a tiered cap depending on what plan you select: Starter 50, Essential 100, Preferred 250, Premier 300, and Ultimate 400 (includes upload and downloads).

YouTube showcased 4k videos at the CES in Las Vegas.

Also, Netflix is only for the new house of cards series. (Right now)
