To EV or not to EV, that is the question

an EV is a pure electric vehicle (leaf), a plug in is a plug in hybrid (toyota prius)

So, you are less likely to actually plug in a "plug-in" than a pure EV?
Correct

Prius, sure. It has such a tiny plug in range that it's hardly worth it.

Every Accord and Fusion plug in owner that I know plugs in religiously -- it's like getting $1.33/gallon gas. Kindof need to do it to achieve some payback on the plugin premium.

Prius and Accord have almost the same range. Prius 11 and Accord 13

Do you think gas prices are going to be this low forever?

No.  The gas price will stay low for a while until economy condition improves and demands pick up.  That's why it's good time to purchase those EV or hybrids while manufacture are giving good incentive.

Maybe the future is poo power?

Forget about packing heat, just drive an electric car:

"The study finds all-electric vehicles cause 86 percent more deaths from air pollution than do cars powered by regular gasoline."

This only true "where coal generates the power"

This is old, but SCE only got 8% of its power from Coal back in 2006:
almanac.ca.gov/electricity/electricity_resource_mix_pie_charts/

If you are charging your electric car only at night when overall demand is low, your power will come from the most available / cheapest power sources.

SCE says that virtually no power came from coal in 2014.
