Out of curiosity why is North Lake four places down from South Lake and not right below South Lake?

TCE plume?

Except for Nighthawk... I think South Lake has newer and bigger homes than North Lake.

Did someone say good schools? I don't think that sending your kids to an Irvine school would guarantee admission to Harvard and a good life after.

But have you considered what the schools in Santa Ana, Anaheim, Garden Grove, and Costa Mesa are like? Feel free to send your kids there if you want them exposed

to drugs, gangs, violence, teenage pregnancies, poverty, and racial tensions.

Irvine schools aren't just known for their great test scores. There are also the issues of safety and positive learning environments.

Even if your kid doesn't become a stellar scholar in Irvine, at least you're shielding him from low socio-economic neighborhoods.

[quote author="sad.machine" date=1246002483]why is columbus grove so bad?</blockquote>

It is a long running joke on these forums. Someone will probably chime in with reasons they do not like Columbus Grove, but it really isn't that bad. If the price were right, I would buy there.

Speaking of Columbus Grove.... this evening I just got back from my first in-person visit there. I was surprised to find... that I thought it was really charming. I actually found myself thinking that maybe I wouldn't mind a little TCE in my coffee if it meant living in one of those cute houses. The power lines... they weren't very adorable. But other than that, it was a lot nicer than what I had imagined and even better than photos I had seen online. (I tried to view Columbus Square too but got lost after turning west on Edinger. I ended up somewhere in Tustin Fields instead. I still don't know where Columbus Square is.)

But I thought they weren't making any more land?

[quote author="LoudRoar" date=1246009092]Did you know the FLIR camera was made across the street from fashion island? sidewinder, made in Newport.

</blockquote>

Yes, I did. I visited the Ford Aerospace (fka Philco Ford Electronics) plant in Newport Beach, where the sidewinder was designed and produced) in the late 80s when it was still operating. That munitions plant became the One Ford Road development in the late 90s, McMonigle used to live there before he moved to Shady. I know people who live at One Ford Road, they said part of the buying process required them to sign a release about the fact that their homes are built on potentially contaminated land.

[quote author="irvine_home_owner" date=1245822972][quote author="Pookie" date=1245814798]May be I didn't word my first post correctly :) I do like Irvine school system. (even though i graduated about 20 years ago!) but mostly it's the parks, pools, and the feeling that I can bring my baby out for a walk after dinner or go for a ride on the bike.

Where I live right now, when I step out of the house, the driveway is full of cars, so you have to be walking on the street. And after 1 or 2 turns, you are out on the big street, where people drives pretty crazily.

</blockquote>
Oak Creek is good as it's newer and you have access to the bike trails... and it's gated (don't know if that is a pro or con for you).

Westpark II is also newer and more central and has walkways through the neighborhoods... and is probably on the lower end of Mello Roos costs.

West Irvine is also good and even though it is Tustin schools district, the schools that service that area are on the same level as Irvine ones.

And you will be suprised that Woodbridge still has younger families. The last boom saw a lot of turnover where new families moved into houses that were owned by empty nesters... the only problem is they may not be there long if they overpaid and financed beyond their means. I think the biggest issue with Woodbridge homes are the dated floorplans.</blockquote>

I think with Woodbrdige it comes down to what street you happen to live on. Our street in South Lake is actually full of kids , but several streets over there are mainly older long time owners whose kids moved out a long time ago. But I always see plenty of kids at the lagoons and parks in the summer....this weekend the South Lake lagoon was full of them!

can you elaborate on this? you mean the sewer systems?

who or what might be living in these underground domes?

TIC keeps the mineral rights because it's simply good business. they can sell the land and homes while keeping dibs should anything juicy turn up underground. also it prevents homeowners from selling their lot or the mineral rights to some oil or mining company. then you end up with residential neighborhoods with oil wells like in HB.
