What books have you read recently?

Steinbeck is always a good choice and I should reread Salinger.

Grrrr I have never read Vonnegut and I know I should.

Currently I am reading Liars Poker. Gotta love those bond traders and creators.

I also listen to Blink everyday. Yeah I know it's not reading but I have the book too.

Next up is The World is Flat. I have both the audio and the book. Both are daunting and I have had them both for (oh crap!) over a year. Maybe if it wasn't near 3am posting this I would have more time to read.

The World is Flat is not a difficult read. You'll enjoy it, and it's likely to change your perspective on the world in at least a small way. Ever since I read it I've been viewing just about everything through the lens of globalization. It's both upbeat and doom-porn material at the same time. The message for bears is that the world is getting better but the US needs to get its ass in gear, pronto.
 
Here is my current reading list. I always have a book on tape going in my car, but my book reading is more sporadic. Sometimes I will read two books in a week, and sometimes I won't touch a book for 2 months. As you can see from my list, I listen for inspiration, and I read for information; the topics vary widely.

awgee - Liars Poker is a fun read as well as educational. It would make a good movie in my mind because it goes into the sleazy side of the business. Some might think that is a fault but without it it wouldn't be as fun if it were just informative. I think some of the stories are exaggerated but I do believe that it may have happened. IIRC I got it on Amazon's marketplace for like $3 so if you can find it for that and even if you thought it was OK you would still think it is worth $3. I am also reading Born to Steal which is more for entertainment and makes the movie Boiler Room look like a bunch of chumps. You can get the hardcover brand new on Amazon's marketplace for under $4 and it is worth it.

oc_fliptrack - Now you really have peaked my interest in The World is Flat. I have watched every show of Thomas Friedman's on the Discovery channel at least twice. I will have to dig into it soon. What is funny is the person who recommended Blink and The World is Flat is now a senior VP over at Laing. He's a smart guy so when he recommended them I bought them that day. I gave him some studies done by Case and Shiller so now he is an even smarter guy.
