UCI suicide

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
My freshman year at UCLA had 3 suicides in my major (CS mathematics). All window jumpers. When you take a bunch of A students and then curve the grades…someone gets the B’s C’s and F’s…Broke many. One girl jumped right off Bunch Hall past her profs window. Today that rate might get attention..back then it was no big deal.🤦🏽‍♂️👍🏽😂😂🇺🇸

The newer dorms are required to have a 4” stop installed on all tracks. Single-hung and casement windows aren’t permitted. The UC Regents and the State Architect have issued strict specifications to help minimize the risk of self-harm. Even the door height was carefully studied to account for chair height, a person’s typical average height, and rope slack. Regarding the incident, Newsource quoted the explanation that “how” is a proprietary technique and will not be disclosed out of respect for the student’s grieving family.

It’s really pointless..in my daughter’s dorms at Pepperdine they have desk seats that rock so you can’t kick them out from under you easily if you try to hang yourself. Rediculous.

The suicides at UCI were each unique and tragic. One involved a pregnant woman who bruised herself before locking herself in her trunk. In another incident, a graduate student back in 2010 entered a native grass field near the observatory, where he died from asphyxiation; his death was ultimately ruled a suicide. These accounts were deeply unsettling. Nonetheless, Irvine is very safe compared to NY’s Long Island, where numerous serial killers preyed on people.
