I don't buy into the idea myself, but <a href="http://consumerist.com/369772/is-your-pleasant-suburb-the-next-slum">this post</a> discussing the "subprime" meltdown as a nail in suburbia's coffin makes for interesting discussion.
 
<p>The cost of the fuel required to get from suburbia to the job centers is another nail in the coffin. Commuting several hundred miles per week with gas at $3.50 stings a bit. </p>
