Thanksgiving Thread

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
I'm bumping this thread because when I made my comment, I thought that this year I would have optimistic news, but alas I don't. Again, I hate to be the downer during this time, but I have to add something...

I just got word the other day that a friend of mine will be losing his job by early next year. This is someone I mentored, and someone who was doomed to fail because everyone saw the negative in him, and never focused on the positive, until I got there. I saw the positive, and recognized the talent in this person. Not only did I recognize it, but after I had helped show the talent, even SVPs saw the talent. Many of those SVPs have been laid off, and yet he has survived several layoffs, and I mean 80% plus reductions, in the homebuilding industry, because he has worked hard and supported the company that ended up supporting him. I am sad that someone who has dedicated the time and effort he has, is being laid off. I understand why, but people like him were not the cause of this, and he was just doing his job. On many occasion, he would stand up to say when he was not comfortable in doing what was being asked of him, he had the same morals of IHBers. It is people like this who are effected by the excess of Kool-Aid, and who do not deserve to be a victim of it. Had others listened to those who fell on deaf ears, then I would not be posting this.

I applaud PeterUK for his comment back then and his open door again this year. While many of us, including my friend, have a place to go this year, knowing that someone like Petah has opened his door to those effected by this mess is awesome. Petah is a great guy for this, and while I joke he is wanker, he is far from.

Also, I would like to mention that Casa Garcia does their t-day thing at the Pond/Honda Center every year. They will not turn anyone down, and they will probably have a very high turn out this year. I am too lazy to search for the OCR article, but they do not have the same amount of turkeys they have had at the same time in the past. They will need them more than ever this year. This year was tight for me, but I sucked it up and donated double the amount of turkeys when I saw the article. Because, I know that there will be many that will need it. The reward will be greater in the end.

Thank You for the kind words Graph but it really is no big deal...but I really appreciate it.

I'm hoping by next Thanksgiving will see a huge recovery, of course, everyone will say there's no chance but there's always hope, and that's all we have right now, right?

Sarah Palin and your Thanksgiving turkey:

I saw that on TV! I really hope no kids were watching.

Forget the turkey... I thought she was supposed to return that Burberry scarf and Donna Karan jacket after the election was over?

See Skek, the RNC is already spreading your donation/wealth money, even before Obama takes the office. Now that is some wealth spreading that even I think is excessive. What if she got some turkey blood on that scarf? A perfectly good Burberry scarf gone completely waste.

*Expecting a Burberry scarf as a bad joke x-mas gift from Skek now...*

I thought Skek owned a Subway franchise.

Are we talking about the right guy here?

I've got a few things to be thankful for.

-Non of the cars have imploded an engine this year... yet.

-I haven't succumbed to purchasing a house... yet.

-All the loved one's around me are still with me and doing well

-new nephew - Andrew Joseph (hispanic side - Andres Jose, Russian Side Andruska Youseph (sP?) )

-Brother dug himself out of a flooded house, they are back to normal, alot lighter in the wallet, but doing ok.

-Older brother is doing ok, no health issues, no housing issues, no job issues there.

- Mom is doing good, getting set to retire in 2 years.... Getting set for year 42 of teaching.

-Wife is doing better after the loss of her mother ( last parent), she still have rough patches, but things are going ok and getting over the loss.

-I'm still solvent and nothing hasn't crashed or gone crazy.... maybe I shoulden't jinx myself. :shut:

Anyways good luck

[quote author="skek" date=1227659449]I had a friend in high school whose parents owned a Subway franchise, ten. They made pretty good money. Alas, I don't own a franchise of anything (although I would kill for a Chipotle franchise -- those things must be mints).

Sorry man,

I must have gotten you confused with someone else on this board.

Are you a manager at IHOP or is that Graph?

Chipotle are all corporate owned.

What about Skek?s Wild Wing Shop?

Things I'm thankful for:

- my friends and family and their tremendous support

- Graphrix; even though he is included in the group above he gets a special mention

- that I didn't buy a condo in Anaheim/Fullerton/Orange/Garden Grove in 2006

- that I'm still employed and don't see that changing in the near future

- my health

- IHB: not only the information, but the lovely people I find here

[quote author="Anonymous" date=1227664579]I am thankful that I was born a human and not a turkey

:-U

Alas, by all accounts, I am still a turkey.

I am thankful for?

My family and friends putting up with my emo-ness

Having a job and the luxury of choosing my own schedule

Having the luxury (guilt guilt) of drooling over a pair of Christian Louboutin when others are worried about putting food on the table?

Having the extra time and resources to help those less unfortunate

Ability to resist the temptation to buy a house (tough tough)

All those at IHB who has listened/helped wholeheartedly (sniff)/ tolerated my lack of dollar sense and did not ignore me when I asked st*pid questions

Have a Very Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of the IHB folks.

I agree with Graph. Lots of good people will have problems not directly caused by their own actions. I still chat with a few good friends in the new home industry and most are either already laid off or expecting a layoff.

Lets enjoy the simple things in life, health, happiness, loved ones, and the ability to live in a free country.

I went out in the forest and cut wood for our wood burning stove last week. What a great way to get in the holiday mood. Looking forward to some snow, a little cold weather, and a picture post card holiday period.

We sent emails to friends and relatives that we were not sending gifts this year but are donating to foodbanks. We also asked our friends/family to do the same rather then send us gifts. There are many people who really need basics and we feel that we are pretty well set. Most people reading this probably are also.

Graph and Peter are leading the way in true holiday spirit.

Enjoy!

I'm thankful for too many things to list (but I'll try.)

- For our health... for being able-bodied. My niece has cerebral palsy so I am constantly reminded how lucky we are to have two healthy (albeit rambunctious!) kids.

- For everyday luxuries like having a car ... I am reminded of it five times a week when I drive past this one bus stop at Irvine Blvd and Yale... and see the same people sitting there waiting for the bus week after week. I pray for them that they might have their needs met too.

- For having enough to meet our needs and then some. When I donated food to a food bank this week and went to the drop-off area...mine was only one of three donations there. I am fortunate to be able to give.

- Thankful for good news we just got that my husband's employer won a multi-million-dollar contract. No job loss here.

- For IHB... and the discernment it has given me when making two huge financial decisions.

- Thankful for not just a "good" but a great life... and not just thankful on Thanksgiving, but everyday.
