I'm bumping this thread because when I made my comment, I thought that this year I would have optimistic news, but alas I don't. Again, I hate to be the downer during this time, but I have to add something...
I just got word the other day that a friend of mine will be losing his job by early next year. This is someone I mentored, and someone who was doomed to fail because everyone saw the negative in him, and never focused on the positive, until I got there. I saw the positive, and recognized the talent in this person. Not only did I recognize it, but after I had helped show the talent, even SVPs saw the talent. Many of those SVPs have been laid off, and yet he has survived several layoffs, and I mean 80% plus reductions, in the homebuilding industry, because he has worked hard and supported the company that ended up supporting him. I am sad that someone who has dedicated the time and effort he has, is being laid off. I understand why, but people like him were not the cause of this, and he was just doing his job. On many occasion, he would stand up to say when he was not comfortable in doing what was being asked of him, he had the same morals of IHBers. It is people like this who are effected by the excess of Kool-Aid, and who do not deserve to be a victim of it. Had others listened to those who fell on deaf ears, then I would not be posting this.
I applaud PeterUK for his comment back then and his open door again this year. While many of us, including my friend, have a place to go this year, knowing that someone like Petah has opened his door to those effected by this mess is awesome. Petah is a great guy for this, and while I joke he is wanker, he is far from.
Also, I would like to mention that Casa Garcia does their t-day thing at the Pond/Honda Center every year. They will not turn anyone down, and they will probably have a very high turn out this year. I am too lazy to search for the OCR article, but they do not have the same amount of turkeys they have had at the same time in the past. They will need them more than ever this year. This year was tight for me, but I sucked it up and donated double the amount of turkeys when I saw the article. Because, I know that there will be many that will need it. The reward will be greater in the end.
