Good move for him. I would love to eat there more, but there's always a crowd.
Siam Station is very good. The original location is good for takeout but has no atmosphere compared to the new one in Cypress Village. It isn't a leader on value, but I think it is the best tasting Thai food in Irvine.
I think historically Irvine has had great Chinese and Korean food, with mediocre Thai food, so it's nice to see the places in Tustin open up as well as in Irvine proper.
A typical lunch order would probably be 1-2 mains at $6 each, plus an optional rice or noodles at like $3. It is a good choice for small meals if you have a small appetite, need to feed a child, or are on a diet or incretin drug. If you start loading up on items, the value proposition is not strong.
I actually prefer Siam over Manaao, there is another one called Chiang Rai near the Tustin Manaao that is supposed to be good.
One of my favorites is Bamboo Bistro off McArthur and PCH in Newport.
It’s from the Bay Area - just a lot of bread IMO. I still haven’t found anything that surpasses Jersey Mikes with the hot pepper spread - just like an east coast deli sandwich

I wish Jersey Mike's would add a sourdough option (gut health!) but too much work to bake proper sourdough bread.
TigaWok opened recently next to Trader Joe's / Omomo.

I'll let you know when I try it. I just checked out their website and their stuff ranges from $2 to $7 but it's a bit misleading because you need to order several to make a meal but it looks good for family-style sharing.
They have combos from $13 to $15 so I guess it's the normal inflation rate.

Mikaya, yet another Chubby Group place, has opened in the old Chili's location. It's supposed to be higher end Shabu style. I get confused by all the different restaurants they have.
Checked out Super Irvine, much roomier than Wholesome Choice. They also have a Persian eatery inside like the old location. Those owners opened Irvine Grill in Quail Hill and it looks like the Super Irvine eatery is owned by them too.
Speaking of Quail Hill, new Thai place, Kinaree, that serves breakfast/brunch opened in the old Nalu's Hawaiian spot. Weird because Thai Bamboo is a few doors down (but there are also 3 Korean eateries in that same center).
Another Thai place opened in Cypress Village, Siam Station. It's the same one over on Barranca and Jamboree (El Pollo Loco / McDonald's). Looks like one is also opening in the Spectrum.

A new Thai restaurant is coming to the Spectrum, but it's actually Manaao Thai Comfort Food. I've eaten at the Tustin location and the food is excellent. This will be a great addition to the mall dining scene.

Checked out Kinaree Eatery today for their grand opening special (50% off dine-in). It was very good overall as far as the 3 dishes my spouse and I tried - Braised Pork (was tender, not dried out), Softshell Crab with curry (abit strong on the powder taste would be my critique), and House Special Noodle. Will come back again for their Belgian Fried Chicken Waffle.
