I guess Mexico, Canada and European countries should do the same to US citizens owning property abroad in retaliation for Trump’s tariffs.

unlike chinese nationals that don’t inject major dollars into the US economy buying luxury goods, cars, paying full fare tuition, etc etc. /s
I’m no fan of foreign cash buyers driving up real estate prices and contributing to lack of affordability for domestic buyers, but to say the US govt should simply confiscate private property with no due process would make them no better than communist china during the Maoist revolution, soviet union, north korea and any other fascist state.

The sad part… i think, is these housing means very little to the real rich… so yeah, it is almost always middle class people got hurt by these jerk moves.

FDR did it to Japanese Americans in a time of war and he’s lionized in history - why can’t Trump do this to actual foreign nationals from a powerful adversary that has agency over their futures by the ability to threaten their families in China?

For one we are not at war, and for two, the president has a track record of being TACO at the moment. If you look at him without all MAGA filters, he is a businessman, who likes making deals and very much enjoyed spotlight for better or worse.

The US govt formally issued an apology and reparations for their actions in the Japanese American internment camps. Nazis also confiscated Jewish private property during their rise to power. This is who you think the US should emulate?

Only a Chinese national would say that. We are absolutely at war with China and it’s time to hit them where the pain is personal - confiscation of their corruptly acquired overseas assets and denying their children entrance to US universities

FDR put American citizens in internment camps. Chinese nationals are NOT American citizens - they are citizens of the PRC. Yet FDR gets a pass!! American history will view favorably the first POTUS that makes China suffer repercussions for their crimes (especially rampant IP theft aided by Chinese nationals in the US). No internment camps or gas chambers - just a one way ticket. Non violent.

It’s a non-lethal nuclear weapon right there for us to deploy against the Chinese govt , and I think this move would be very popular politically. Headlines like this build support for this drastic measure, and if the rest of the country learned about how Chinese nationals have inflated the Irvine RE market it would inflame public opinion and build even more support.
