Official (?) Harbaugh to Michigan

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Yes, I remember when Rick Neuheisel was our head coach he lived in a big house on the lake near Bill Gates and came to work on his fancy boat on Lake Washington.  That was his standard recruiting tour; taking them around on his boat.  :P  He had a generous loan but if he stuck around long enough, I'm sure all of those things would have been eagerly paid off by the boosters.  It's amazing how coaches are usually the highest paid government workers.  Much more than the college president.

Yea I'm head scratching but there are other "incentives" at the college level that isn't in a contract like getting your mortgage paid off by boosters ala Nick Saban.

Although he has done a great job in the pros, I would think it would be much easier to control and deal with the college kids.  A lot of the guys in the pros are making more than the coach and they have that attitude to match.  In college, if you stray too far off the line, you're gone and all that's left is to honor the scholarship for a few years.  I would assume even that could be retracted.

I would hate to be a college coach/recruiter due to all the flying around recruiting kids, especially around now.  I hate flying and the recent events remind me why.  For $5 mil I probably would though.  :P

Looks like the 49ers also gave him an incentive to get out of town/NFL by agreeing to waive his buyout of about $3 to $5 mil if he went to a college team instead of a rival NFL team, like the Raiders.  I don't think it would have come out of his pocket anyway but makes it easier on the team that would sign him.

Look what JH did for the 49ers. One bad season, and management wants to move in a different direction.

It just shows that no matter how good you are, you have to get along with upper management.  You could be an axx but just need to make management happy as you're still just an employee.  Look at how long some of the other crap coaches have been around.

Not even one bad season.. NFC championships and they were trying to trade him after that.

As far as attitude, he can do whatever he wants because he wins football games. I rather have a unique football coach that wins games vs. having a yes sir coach, and the team not going to the playoffs. (Just think of the years before JH.  Not good, fans were mad, dreamed of the playoffs)
