How much would be a reasonable amount to spend on the landscaping (hardscape + softscape) on a Woodbury home with a 4XXX sq ft lot??

20K? 30K? 50K?

Trying to see how much budget we have to set aside :)

You can spend $5k or you can send $100k...all depends on how fancy you want to get.  Make sure that your landscaping plan, via drawings/elevations, is approved by the HOA before you start.

Thanks for the tip fellow Trojan :)

But I still would love to know what new buyers are spending to have at least a decent looking front/backyard... today I was shown 4 houses by the landscaping guys introduced by the builder and the range was 30K for just the front yard and 60-80K for front and back. I'm sure they can do it for less, so I'd love to have some feedback from those who is more familiar with landscape pricing so I know what to expect.

We are not looking for anything fancy.. just something cleaning and pleasing to the eye for the front yard and mostly hardscape out back and trees to help with privacy for these tiny lots :)

Another fellow Trojan!!!  Awesome.

Wow, that's some pretty penny for landscaping.  Ours will not go over 9K, granted we don't even have 4xxx sqft yard and we only have backyard to worry about.

Only back yard, would that be Montecito? How big is your lot? And if you don't mind sharing, what are you able to do with 9K? The 30K-80K figure shocked me a bit... i thought one of the benefits of the tiny lots in Woodbury is there is minimal cost associated with landscaping...

Oh, and yep, class of 99 here :)

About 50k for mine and I can do it for 15k for basic landscaping.

I'm in the process of submitting my drawing plan to the HOA .... $250 for application fees and another $500 refundable.
With Carmel builder landscaper your are paying double the cost but less problems I think .....

My advices is don't go for the cheapest for outsides contractors unless you have a lot of time to supervise them ....

Make sure you get a break down on the list of materials and multiple payments.

My contractor provides me his 3D render design and 2d drawing first to my specifications and we went down to pick materials and plants. It important to see the materials and plants in person and I took back some samples to place in my yards. He provide me three poster sizes drawing with all the materials, plants, lights, drainage, and etc ....

Mike,

Did you go with a contractor Sonoma recommended or was it an outside contractor? And if you don't mind can you tell me a bit what you were able to do for 50K?

When you said basic for 15K does that include any paving of the driveway and the walkway leading up to the front door or just grass and a few trees to meet the HOA requirements?

I would think that in this RE turndown, there would be better deals on landscape contracts. It's not like the whole world can HELOC stone/cement/pavered backyards.

I would suggest shopping around for reputable and reasonable companies... I'm not sure what you guys are putting into your backyards but those amounts sound pretty high.

Mike: Are you building another house in your backyard?

Has anyone had any luck with Angieslist.com or ServiceMagic.com?

I send you a PM ....

you can save lots of money going outside, I met with the Carmel landscaper, but it cost too much for what I want.

Don't let the HOA knows .... I'm building roman bath in my yard.

Honestly, whoever is going through the builder to do their land/hardscaping is getting royally ripped off.  Do yourselves a favor and shop around, don't be scared.

Honestly I thought 9K is high, so I am going to get more quotes.  Yes it is Montecito, and I think our lot is whooping 3400 SQFT.  I don't know what am I going to do with all that SQFT.  Mini golf?  Bowling Alley?  :-)

If you put a putting green, can I come over and practice my short game?  :)

Good to see another Trojan on here.  Class of 2005 here.

Seem like I'm the oldest Trojan here  ???

Just bought at Carmel and stumbled upon this forum... a lot of nice folks here and many of the threads are very educational and informative, and some are just very entertaining  :D

A lot of great advice from everyone regarding the landscaping.. I will definitely have to do some shopping around. Anyone have a reputable landscaping company they can recommend?? Seem like with the builder, the minimum for front and back yard is around 40K...

I don't think so...the Class of 2005 was for B-school...I finished the other school in 97.

There is a gardener that one of my clients uses up in Orange, let me see if he will come down to Irvine.

I am not sure if I ever said it on this forum but I am a Trojan too.  Actually, I am wearing a Trojan T-shirt in Hawaii (on vacation) at this very moment.  I am in early 40's, if you are wondering.  Maybe we can have a Woodbury SC game day party or something.
