When I read this in the paper I was mad:
http://www.ocregister.com/articles/tunnel-264010-project-toll.html

You can pay me $8mil to tell you that a tunnel under a national forest is a bad idea.

I can't believe how much money is wasted on stuff like this. And what is the 241 for? You can't travel those extra few miles on the 91 that you have to carve a tunnel in earthquake country? Why not just build next to the 91 or on top of it? Continue the 241 over, extend the Expressway and connect to it. I bet that would cost way less than the $28bil just to start the project. In fact, you could probably do it for less than you're paying to just think about it. Ugh.

Maybe it's just me but even if they built an instant matter teleporter that only works between Irvine and the IE... I still wouldn't buy a house out there for a dollar.

I just can't live out there... the heat alone is a big enough deterrent.

That isn't hyperbole.

Even though the cows are no longer in abundance along the 15... it still smells very bovine in Riverside... at least where the people I know live... and they have an elevated home.

There are a LOT of cow dung buried everywhere.  I heard that in certain parts of Corona and Norco, there are so many flies that they can turn your window black.

Man... you guys are like mind readers. When I was last there... those were the 2 things that bothered me the most... the smell and the flies. Both are bothersome if you want to even to attempt to eat outside.

My bf's family is from the rancho cucamonga area and i don't notice any smell or flies but that is quite a bit further and heavily developed.  Its basically OC, its just really far away.    The problem with the parts of Riverside and Corona that people who work in OC live in is that they are just hastily thrown up bedroom communities.  There are really nice parts of riverside but they aren't the parts that are convenient to OC (not that any part of riverside is all that convenient....)

I will never live there.  I have IHO's problem with temperature - well, mine might be worse.  I pretty much don't sweat at all so I can't tolerate temperatures over a relatively low number like ..85... for very long or very vigorous activity.  I can do higher in short amounts if i'm not exerting myself.  But living anywhere hotter than that basically forces me to use the airconditioning for the entire summer and some of fall and spring.

You know I just had to reply to this to dispel some of the misconceptions (better late than never).

To start off with, I'm a South County snob.  I admit it.

Having moved to West Corona in July (just beyond the 241), I can honestly say it isn't that bad. Why?

1. No flies. Ants and spiders, yes, but I have yet to see a fly.

2. No cow smell.

3. The heat isn't that bad once you get used to it. That's why G-d created A/C and shade. And how many months does the heat last...June thru Oct? You have Nov-May to look forward to!

4. 91 traffic can be a bitch, but I'm fortunate enough to take the toll roads for my commute. Takes me 20 mins to get to work and about a 1/2 hour home.

5. As I stated in a previous post, I got a damn good deal on my home. It was owned by a contractor who did amazing upgrades, and my backyard has a killer view of the hills. No neighbors behind me. If the home were in Irvine, I would be paying at least $700K and have no breathing room because Irvine likes to pack 'em in. It just ain't worth it.

That's my 2 cents. Now I jump off my soapbox and go back into hiding.

That's more in Riverside... Corona isn't as close to the bovine area.

I'm sure it's hot other than just those months... A/C cost money and shade doesn't work when the wind is hot too.

When you have to take kids to your local school or have to pick them up because they were sick or drop off their lunch because they forgot it... the distance is a factor.

You are understating this. No SFR with a view in Irvine cost $700k. There are only a few homes on the "hills" and those probably start in the high $900ks.

No hiding... a forum needs contrasting opinions and I would rather have someone like you tell me that I'm wrong than jumpcut posting another kpop video (I'm kidding... I actually like to see how many of those jumpcut can find).

My coworker and direct boss live in Corona, one in very West Corona, and one in South Corona.
South Corona also has traffic on 15 freeway.  Traffic from 91 to 15 and 15 to 91 sucks big time.

Regardless, they both have a huge house on a hill with a GREAT view.  I might think about Corona when I get close to retirement.  You get a lot of house for the money and view is GREAT.  Did I say that the view is GREAT??  During retirement, you can schedule many of your activities around the traffic.
The heat does suck and the A/C gets a lot of use which costs a lot.
