I heart this house. I even like the yellow paint. Seems like you could actually make some money as a B&B too. [NewToOC starts to google Plainfield City NJ].

That's just a part of it! There's the foundation, electrical, plumbing...all sorts of things to get up to the current codes...old paint with lead, etc. Also, in many places you have to deal with the historical folks - god forbid you do anything that upsets them. Or there are city rules about what you can and cannot do, pretty much like a strict HOA would be.
Like I said, these houses are moneypits. Lovely when they're fixed up, but huge moneypits!

Very charming but the vinyl window replacements ruined the authenticity.

And the property taxes are high, but New England has lower income tax, gasoline tax, grocery prices, car registrations, etc.
And some states don't even have a sales tax or income tax.
So, I think it equals out in the end.
And I said that some New England states had no sales tax and no income tax.
Maybe the produce isn't better, but IMO but the Seafood is much better than California.
Every state has their pros and cons.

Well, some cars will work in yellow, while others won't. There are probably homes that do work in yellow. When I went to shop for a condo in Irvine back in 1999, the interior of Oak Park plan 1 model home was painted in a shade of cream yellow-ish from memory, and it didn't look too bad. I have some pictures from back then:

Really? Mass, NY and Conn have lower income taxes than Washington and Texas? Is the produce better than California, too?
