How do you know you are garage-obsessed?

I've been spending quite a bit of time at open houses and model homes lately, and I've noticed that not only am I obsessed with 3CWG (3-car wide garages) but just garages in general.

You are like me if:

1. When on the first floor, you spend just as much time looking at the garage as the rest of the first floor.

2. You are frustrated at new model homes when they lock the garage so you can't look at it.

3. One of the first things you do when you go into the garage is look for a space for the 2nd fridge.

4. The second thing you do is look at how high the garage ceiling is to scope out locations to put your above garage storage.

5. You like it when a resale home has garage floor coating but don't really want to do it yourself if it doesn't.

6. You walk off the width and length of the garage to make sure your cars will fit nicely in it... I have it memorized... at least 22 steps long and 22 steps wide.

7. You have acronyms for the different type of garages.

8. On Redfin, the first thing you look at is the exterior shot to see what kind of garage it has.

9. You are reluctant to visit open houses or model homes with only a 2-car garage.

10. You prefer garage doors with windows so that you can have natural light in your garage.

Your HOA thanks you for making parking enforcement/garage inspections easier.

How many times have you moved or done an purge of unused items?  It sounds like you might have too much stuff.
I think we've moved 5 times, purged on each move... and did a recent purge when we installed the garage racks.

Actually not too much stuff... but we have 4 bikes, scooters, sports stuff, misc items. We can fit both cars in the garage... but I like to have space for other things too.

Heh... we have something like that in the backyard.

Not much extra closet space. That holds clothes and toys (my kids have those 40-gal bins of legos, barbies etc etc).

Looking back at my list, not many of those items indicate we have a storage issue (other than the above garage racks) so I don't know why you are focusing on that.

@Tyler:

I agree with you. The other "big" stuff we store there... our Christmas "tree", outdoor and indoor decorations, tools, garden tools and cleaning stuff (mop, broom, vacuum), Costco 18-pack of paper towels, 24-pack of bathroom tissue... normal garage stuff.

My list is more about features I like in a garage, and as you know I have a minivan and that's not a small car, so I like the garage to be big to make it easy for people to egress from the vehicles.

Plus my shoes go in the garage... I don't want to bring them in the house... and my shoes are huge. I'm rotating at least 2 or 3 pairs of ball kicks alone.

We hang our bikes too... but it's easier if the kids bikes are on the ground so they don't need us to take them down to ride them... so the extra floor space a 3rd car (tandem or W) provides is useful. Like with my shoes above, you can think of it as a large mudroom.

1)  When the neighbors introduce you to their friends, the friends say something like, "So you're the garage guy?"  Happens more often than not.
2)  Both the starter home and the move up home were bought because of the garage; they were the only 2 homes out of 100s that had adequate garages.
3)  The starter garage was 89% as large as the starter home.
4)  The current garage could fit the starter home completely inside of it, with room to spare.
