There are more than 1,000 homes in Luna Park, yet there are no nearby schools for children. Homeowners are paying around $1,000 in Mello-Roos each year, but there is still no school infrastructure in place. There is a large amount of open space where Lennar continues to build more homes, and that land could be used for much needed schools. Unfortunately, no one seems concerned about planning for children’s education. It appears that the builder Lennar along with the city and the school district are focused on collecting money from residents while failing to provide basic infrastructure like schools. Luna Park urgently needs schools including elementary, middle, and high schools to support the growing community.

The strange thing is that the new proposed homes as part of the FivePoint/city land swap appear to be IUSD, I think Solis Park and Portola, if IUSD isn't building a new K-8 altogether. I didn't see that commitment in the documents, but I recall there was potentially some money put aside for that.

The new homes given to FivePoint are further south, past the Broadcom campus. If you compare VTTM 19402 for example and the distance to SVUSD schools, it's about the same as Luna Park to the SVUSD schools (just under 3 miles from new homes to SVUSD schools as well as Luna Park to SVUSD schools).

But Luna Park is less than a mile from Solis Park, whereas VTTM 19403 and 19402 would be about 3 miles to Solis Park.

I don't know what IUSD is planning to commit, but the main argument I heard from GP residents against the land swap is that the schools are crowded as is.

Won’t happen if it is zoned for SVUSD. You can see a similar circumstance to The Meadows development in Lake Forest as the district is declining in enrollment and closing schools elsewhere.
The Meadows was always going to be SVUSD though right? I recall it was just the apparent promise of a school built in the community which obviously never happened.
