Sorry to hear that Vas. Maybe your wife is destined to be the next Pioneer Woman :) If she is not down with the farm thing, biomedical engineers are in demand. She could try and get her foot in the door with a internship. I hear Edwards Life Sciences pays their interns 60-70k. I'd also try Beckman Coulter. Just a suggestion...
 
One thing I've observed is that it is different during this downturn. Typically, I've kept busy in downturns because closing a manufacturing business requires environmental work to resolve issues of what may be left on or beneath the closed property. But this time, there really isn't as much of that work left to do. Those businesses were closed during previous downturns, and few were created here during upswings. We can't all be administrators, regulators, and service providers. At some point in the economic chain, somebody has to grow something, build something, or otherwise create tangible wealth.
