Got laid off....

Truly, I'm sorry to hear this no_vas. If you need anything from up Seattle way, or if you need more info on that insurance loophole, let me know.

Sorry to hear that Vas. Maybe your wife is destined to be the next Pioneer Woman :) If she is not down with the farm thing, biomedical engineers are in demand. She could try and get her foot in the door with a internship. I hear Edwards Life Sciences pays their interns 60-70k. I'd also try Beckman Coulter. Just a suggestion...

One thing I've observed is that it is different during this downturn. Typically, I've kept busy in downturns because closing a manufacturing business requires environmental work to resolve issues of what may be left on or beneath the closed property. But this time, there really isn't as much of that work left to do. Those businesses were closed during previous downturns, and few were created here during upswings. We can't all be administrators, regulators, and service providers. At some point in the economic chain, somebody has to grow something, build something, or otherwise create tangible wealth.

I tried a couple of times to PM you, but have been unsuccessful. Maybe your mailbox is full?

PM me. I may have some suggestions concerning engineering employment.

Is is time to reintroduce "Buy American?" (Am I dating myself with that statement?)

Their jobs are now in Vietnam and China.

HBO just released a documentary on the rise/fall of garment industry in the last month. They included that spot Eva posted.

Needless to say, the concept of "durable competitive advantage" and how it is directly at odds with a "strong dollar policy" escapes most people.
