Yep, I was awake and checking out the forums when it hit... very mild, but my office is upstairs so the windows rattling was my first indication...

It's nice to be back home with friends and family. I'm actually going to dinner tonight with a friend that I've known since 4th grade. They're the friends that know EVERYTHING about you - the good and the bad. Don't get on their bad side - they can bring up some nasty stuff from the past. :shut: %-P



I do miss that weather though! Thank goodness for frequent flyer miles and friends with guest rooms. I'll be visiting OC quite a bit. I already miss my Cali friends. :down:
 
I just felt a nice little roller here at work in Orange.

Looks like its in that same area as the one last summer.

3.8 in Yorba Linda

The fish in the Saltwater Aquarium in my office freaked out.

But a "nothing close" as compared to that one last summer.

Felt my place shake pretty good. Not bad for a <a href="http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2009/05/50-quake-strikes-near-lax-felt-across-wide-area.html">5.0 quake all the way from LA</a>.
 
Did anyone feel the earthquake today <a href="http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/recenteqsus/Quakes/ci10411545.php">4.1 Los Angeles Tuesday May 19th</a>? About 20 minutes ago... I didn't but my coworker claims she did. I swear our office building rattles constantly... I probably dismissed it as the A/C acting up.
 
A 4.1 few minutes ago- I was removing something from the fridge, and saw the bottles shake. Thought it was dear daughter at work again.

So, a big one on the way?

Last time I just ran out of the house with kids. That's an Asian thing to do I guess. Only people out were me, and my chinese neighbors. Everyone stayed in..
 
We don't have cable during the off season of college basketball and football, so when that one hit on Sunday we turned to the Internet for instant news. Nothing had been posted yet, but I figured if there was one place that would already have the skinny on magnitude and epicenter, it would be the IHB. Sure enough, within minutes you guys had the info posted.
 
I did the same thing stepping but no one had posted yet. So I checked out the latest on usgs.gov... The 4.1 is an early number... they seem to be adjusted down pretty often.

I was not familiar with the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triangle_of_Life">Triangle of Life</a> theory so I had to Google it. I do not know enough about that theory to know if I believe in it or not. I stand under a doorway because I have lived in SoCal for 30 years and was taught to do this since a kid, even in school, along with duck & cover (which I see that theory dismisses, interesting.) Now running outside will put you at risk. If the quake is very strong and windows break - guess who is going to catch flying shards of glass. Stay inside and try to move away from the windows. When you hunker down, interlace your fingers and put them on the back of your neck to protect your spinal cord.
 
go read the earthquake preparation thread as to why you should NOT run outside... you'll see some nice pictures of a downed power line dancing like mad. Hispanics run outside too. Back in the '89 quake all the hispanic families camped in the park for days and wouldn't go back inside until the after shocks went away.jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj
