Car Insurance

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Me and my gf are both 25 now so we can get the discount on car insurance. I'm gonna change companies cause my rate didn't lower after i turned 25, and the gf got a new car and needs insurance, who should we go with?

Try mercury or esurance.

Mercury is the absolute worst when it comes to a claims experience. True, they have some of the best rates, but if you ever need to file a claim, good luck.

I would recommend Wawanesa, then AAA then Geico.

We have used Ameriprise (with the Costco discount) for several years now and have had a good experience:

I will strongly second Zovall's recommendation and also advise steering clear of Geico.

SCHB

Third Ameriprise. They've been cheapest for me (or close to it) for about five years now. Mercury and 21st Century were about the same. Everyone else is way higher.

So the rates should start lowering at 25 or 26? I wasnt sure since the age bracket is typically 18-25. I'll keep that Ameriprise link to compare when I get my renewal in June since I already live at Costco.

Rates seem to come down about 10% at each of 25, 30, and 35. IMHO.

We spend the savings on pills to hold our aging bodies together, so it's a wash.

Wawanesa FTW! When I switched, I saved a ton! Check out this thread from a few months ago:

Mercury is a PITA, I would avoid. They are super thorough on screening everything - application, proof of discounts, everything. I haven't had to file a claim, but I imagine it must suck even worse.

I'm not really a Police Officer....

Oh wait...

We looked at Wawanesa, but they coulden't help us, my wife is still a newer driver. So far everybody has been the same if not ALOT more expensive (with worse coverage....).

Maybe in a few years we'll get a better rate.

I say just check around and see what you get.
