Bike Trails

LOL. My husband would love to start biking again - but it's too early for him (he's not a morning person). He might go if you do it on weekend afternoons.

I ride the Backbay most weekday mornings and roll out about 7:30-8 so come and join me..all levels welcome..especially beginners who may need a little guidance.

Do it! Let's all get skinny before Christmas!!

Need to ride in less than bright light? How about the "Betty?" It only costs $1,185. made by Germany's Lupine Lighting Systems, generates so much heat that if a rider isn't moving fast enough to create wind, the light will automatically start dimming itself to prevent the light from overheating. At 1,400 lumens, it's about as bright as a car's headlight, the company says. There's a wait-list of up to two weeks for the light, which is made up of seven LEDs.

Rode Laguna Canyon southbound today and I'm not sure that I want to do that again. It might be nice at 7AM on a Sunday. At 2PM on a Saturday, there just too much traffic. The road surface is good, the scenery is fantastic, there's enough of a bike line, but the traffic. Ugh. Then I headed towards Jamboree on PCH. Twice it gets scary, once right there in Laguna, the other in Corona Del Mar. There's literally no bike lane or shoulder -- Instead there's parallel parked cars. The good news is that you can leave PCH and ride one of the parallel neighborhood roads until you get the bike lane on PCH back. There are no killer climbs.

I also ran out of water but I'm sure that water can be found in Crystal Cove or El Moro. The last segment along Jamboree/Harvard can be ridden on the Mountains-to-Sea trail.

Total miles: 30.

Calgal..I do have a moutain bike which I bought in jan but I only use it for comuting..bit of a waste really but I do ride it on the Backbay sometimes so if anyone wanted to do that for a slower sightseeing pace that would be good too..whatever.but I normally do group rides on Sunday on my road bike..what kind of riding does he do? Prof I bought a light similar to that.its a light & motion but mine was *only* about $600...I also do night rides at around 9pm during the week..those are really fun and pretty surreal..you can hear all the Frogs because its really quiet.

wow...that seems like a nice ride eff...pity about the traffic though...I've got a stinkin cold and had to work so my Saturday went down the Toilet ;-(

Calgal, yes, that would be great...let me know when he's ready and we'll go for a spin, slthough I'm not familiar with the Trails around there, but that's OK

Is it possible to mountain bike and get good exercise without risking injury? I mean, can one mountain bike and not take chances which could lead to injury? This may sound like a stupid question, but I am sincere? I would like to get some exercise, but I can not risk getting seriously hurt.

There are plenty of wide and well-groomed dirt roads around, and much of the singletrack in Whiting is free of drop-offs and obstacles. I think you'd do fine.

awgee, it really depends where you ride, if you find a nice flat trail or paved trail it's relatively safe, I don't think any kind of cycling is 100% safe but neither is driving a Car. You should always wear a Helmet, broken arms and legs can be fixed, heads can't. Road Biking is all about endurance, mountain biking is more about balance and sometimes it's pretty hard to find a good balance on a mountain bike if you're going up or down a steep climb, you have to shift your body weight forward and backwards to either gain traction going up or prevent yourself going over the bars on the way down....if you don't already have a Bike and would like to take up Cycling I'd be more than happy to give you some advice. Any kind of Cycling has it's inherent risks of course but the benefits can far outweigh them....

we saw a huge Cat on the san diego trail last year...it was the size of a fully grown retriever...I've never sprinted so fast in my life...

cool - hubby said he was up for it. Mid November probably. Other people here are welcome as well. Just let me know if you are interested (Eff? Graph? Awgee? Z? others?)

I'd have to switch back to off-road tires. Like a true dumbass, I gave away my second rear wheel, so I can't do a simple wheel swap.

So the answer is no... I don't have the right bike for it.
