    Stock picks

This was an interesting article below.  I was wonder how are folks positioning themselves until end of the year.  If folks are to believe this article, what would be the best way to position oneself for a trade?  Put options on one of the ETFs? Play the volatility index? Short a particular...

    Martial arts recommendation for kids?

All the options mentioned above TKD, Karate, BJJ, etc... are just various parents experiences and what worked for their kids.  I don't think anyone is suggesting that one particular style or location will address the needs of all kids. We looked at all the above before deciding so I think if...

Harvard Admits 4.6% of Applicants; Other Ivy League Schools Get Tougher, Too

Bones, How would you weigh students coming out of a new high school such as Portola High since it doesn't have a lot of history?  I think it won't graduate its first students until 2019.

    Extra math after school

We actually cover subjects like math and some extra reading/writing during the summer so that our kids have more time for their afterschool activities during the school year.  If they have already been exposed during the summer, it will be more review during the school year and less stress.  All...

    Extra math after school

RandomG, We signed up one of our kids for the same  3 week 7th grade math at Sierra Vista middle school.  Will see how it goes.  Sometimes its easier when they are in a structured environment vs. at home with mom/dad trying to teach them.

    Extra math after school

Hi curious george, We usually spend the summers having our kids study math for the upcoming school year.  Thiss way it is less stressful for the kids since they are seeing it for the 2nd time when school starts.  Irvine has some reasonably priced programs for the summer.  You can check them out...

AT&T Gigapower is here (1gbps or 300mbps up & down)

COX increased download speed in the last week.  I have been paying for the 100/20 Mbps and on a direct connection vs. wireless I measure approximately 120/12 Mbps.  Starting last week I noticed that it is measuring closer to 160-180 Mbps download but no difference in the upload (~12Mbps).  I...

    Google Fiber coming to Irvine

The pricing seems reasonable compared to what COX is now charging for 100Mbps (~$82) but don't like the requirement to opt in for all your web browsing which they refer to as ATT Internet Preferences.  If you opt out the price is $109(vs. $80) for 300Mbps and $139(vs. $109) for 1Gps.  In...

Our experience has been that the kids are more disciplined, less likely to fight or get in trouble, they make good friends at the school, they learn that it takes hard work to achieve anything, they learn to focus, and of course they get in great shape.  Overall its been a very positive...

    Broker Credit - Tax Treatment

When a broker credits you back a portion of the credit after closing how is it best handled on one's taxes?  It was not listed on the HUD statement.  What I have read thus far suggests that it is not taxable income to buyer, rather just reduces the cost basis of home.  Moreover, only the...
