went to bistro west in the district last night. it's a good place for fish and steak. my wife had the sole piccata, i had the filet/ahi/salmon combo. hers was excellent, mine was very good. not cheap ($26 or 28 for hers, 37 for mine) but it's a rare place in irvine that serves really good...

ditto on coastal kids. if the drive to newport beach doesn't bother you, then it's a great option. we have steven abelowitz as our pediatrician, he's been great.

* california fish on barranca and culver - better fish than restaurants twice its price * ono hawaiian barbeque at district - much better stuff than competitors * china garden on walnut and jeffrey - good for dim sum, so-so for dinner * fukuda on irvine center drive - good stuff all around...

Went there one Saturday afternoon as a non-member. Impression (don't take my words as gospel, just an one-day experience): 1- Lots of courts, and many of them were empty. 2- Members were older, typically 50+ 3- Not too fancy a place, the facilities look a bit dated. 4- No cougar hotties!

I totally agree with the "two souls in two lands" idea, because I feel that way whenever I go back to Hong Kong where I was born. Then the "leaving a piece of you behind" freaked me out! I thought I was the only one who felt that.
