Minimum Wage Increase Impact/Effect

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Moving the goalposts. It went from "increasing the minimum wage won't hurt the economy" to "fast food closures are good for society".

I'm not sure how destroying a tax base will save the the state billions of dollars. It's actually the opposite. There are 18,000 less jobs generating tax revenue and costing the state unemployment fund millions.
Millions is a drop in the bucket. California paid $20 billion in unemployment fraud during the pandemic. I don’t know how much tax revenue minimum wage jobs generate anyway especially if a lot of workers aren’t even legal. Workers still need to be subsidized by the government for food, housing and healthcare. Not having easy to fast food will save billions in healthcare costs in the long run.

The access to fast food hasn't changed one iota, but now you have more people living in poverty that can't afford to see a doctor, which does indeed lead to poorer healthcare outcomes and higher costs for tax payers.

Actually the skill set they have is dealing with the public. Something every human should have to do in order to learn how to treat others and behave in society.

Basic skills not worth paying $20/hour to learn. Those were never supposed to be career job…they are transitional jobs where workers learn the basics (discipline, respect and yes, service relationship.) by dictating that wage on the industry they destroyed the job base, just the opposite of what they bragged they would do.😡👎🏽🦄🌈

People need to be able to afford a roof over their head. If people don't like the idea of paying workers $20/hr, they should allow a lot more housing to be built for actual workers and not just foreign money launderers.

Living wage is a farce. By artificially forcing a wage they eliminated 18000 jobs. Now what do all those people do? The jobs market is not some static model. Better to have a job at less then be unemployed with no future prospects🤷🏽‍♂️🦄🌈

So a slave wage is cool to you. Not enough to even get by and you think they should be happy about it. What is wrong with you? Have some empathy. Is a few dollars more really going to matter to the business owner? If it does they shouldn’t be in business.

A market wage is what’s cool with me…let the market set the wage. And yes, a few dollars makes a tremendous difference, it’s why so many mom and pops and the majors have shut down…those jobs will not come back and those people (owners and employees) now have nothing…well done!

18,000 unemployed people can no longer afford a roof over their head. Build more housing and they still can't afford it.

Where is your heart? Where is your sympathy for these 18,000 impoverished people?

If a mom and pop can’t keep up with a living wage they shouldn’t be hiring. just do the work themselves and pay their family members a less than living wage to do the job.

And who gets to decide what a living wage is? Politicians?

What about the 18,000 newly unemployed.... They are not getting a living wage, but rather abject poverty, as the result of your empathy.
