If Anti 2A, Anti-NRA folks were really riled up about "money and influence" perhaps they should also include the lobbying and campaign financing of Teachers Unions.

Why? Well, considering more children are raped molested by Teachers per year than killed by NRA members at schools, shouldn't there be some leftover outrage to share on the issue? Need some evidence of the claim? Google "Teacher accused of" or "Teacher arrested for" which gives plenty of cases in just the past 12 months.

Teachers Union spending on elections in 2016: $33.2m

(For "oh, that's just Fox news..." the link from Open Secrets.org was too long, but they have more details)

NRA spending on elections in 2016: $55m-$70m

Evidently it's possible to buy off politicians and avoid both school and teacher reform with less money than it does to ensure a constitutionally protected right remains so. Should this be allowed to stand?

My .02c

Goodness gracious. This is horribly flawed logic. Who has more access to kids than teachers? Parents? By this fact alone, I would expect the vast majority of violations of children to be perpetrated by parents and teachers. It's simple math/statistics.

The 2nd Amendment is not an absolute right, regardless of how many times anyone screams "Constitutionally protected!!!"

Perspective —-the only reason this thread suddenly became active is because on the other “trump thread s “  his supporters don’t have anything to say :)    So let’s not talk about logic

Tipping point ? Yes I still stand by it . Why everyone getting so impatient - midterms are still three  months away !

Goodness gracious, doesn't the Ninth Circuit know the 2nd Amendment is not an absolute right:

I hope Hawaii appeals this all the way to the SCOTUS. The liberals will be fucked. Go Kavanaugh!

Your posts are indicative of the new Republican party under Trump's leadership. Nothing matters, not consistency, not intellectual honesty, not character... This, like bigotry, was always a large part of the Republican platform. Trump's just magnified it and made it incapable of being even plausibly denied.

This is indicative of the new Perspective.  Suffering mightily from Trump Derangement, he can only fall back on ad hominems when he loses a debate.

We've been lied to repeatedly this year.  Though NPR does lean too far to the left, they do strive for accuracy in their reporting.

NPR: The School Shootings That Weren't
Quote
How many times per year does a gun go off in an American school?

We should know. But we don't.

This spring the U.S. Education Department reported that in the 2015-2016 school year, "nearly 240 schools ... reported at least 1 incident involving a school-related shooting." The number is far higher than most other estimates.

But NPR reached out to every one of those schools repeatedly over the course of three months and found that more than two-thirds of these reported incidents never happened. Child Trends, a nonpartisan nonprofit research organization, assisted NPR in analyzing data from the government's Civil Rights Data Collection.

We were able to confirm just 11 reported incidents, either directly with schools or through media reports.

And more fake “facts”.

Shock study claiming U.S. accounts for nearly one-third of mass shootings 'botched,' researcher says

A shock 2016 study argued that the U.S. accounted for nearly one-third of all mass shootings, sparking global headlines about the dangers of an American gun culture.

Now another researcher says the original study “botched” the data.

John R. Lott Jr., president of the Crime Prevention Research Center, crunched the numbers and said his count shows that the U.S. had less than 3 percent of the world’s mass public shootings over a 15-year period.

That is smaller than the 4.6 percent of the world’s population that the U.S. accounts for — and way less than the 31 percent of global mass shooters that Adam Lankford, a professor at the University of Alabama, claimed in his widely publicized studies.

“If you fix the data, you get the opposite result from him,” Mr. Lott said. “He has the United States way out there, all by itself in terms of mass public shootings. He’s simply wrong. The United States, when I go through this, ranks 58th in the world in the rate of mass public shootings and 62nd in the world in terms of murders from mass public shootings.”

So, here we are at the elections and not only is gun control NOT an issue, it actually has fallen in support since the shootings in February...All to easy to predict, no game changing trend to see here.

Six in 10 Americans Support Stricter Gun Laws

61% of Americans favor stricter gun control, down from 67% in March
87% of Democrats, 31% of Republicans support tougher gun laws
28% of Americans support a handgun ban

Not only is gun control not a top issue in the election tomorrow, it is not an issue at all, you couldn’t find it with a microscope, even I didn’t see that coming.

Gun control might not be top issue in 2018 elections, Florida poll finds

Gun control might not be as powerful an issue as many people expected after the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre, a new poll shows.

This is just a bunch of worthless virtue signaling garbage.  Just like last time, not much will change.  This corporate jump on the bandwagon will loose steam again.  All a bunch of PR/BS, "but this time we really mean it!"  LOL!!  Lets see if any of this stands in 6 months.

Dick's banned assault rifles after the Newtown school shooting — and later reversed the decision

Dick's Sporting Goods said Wednesday it would stop selling assault-style weapons in its stores.
The chain also banned the weapons after the December 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.
Dick's ultimately started selling the weapons again, however.
Dick's says the ban is permanent this time.

Like I said then...corporate virtue signalling that leads nowhere.  This issue was such a driving force in the election, not....

How to Stop the Corporate Virtue-Signaling Before It’s Too Late

Just before Halloween, the U.S. streaming giant Hulu sent out a tweet: “If you’re dressing up for #Huluween this year, this is your reminder to wear a costume that is culturally appropriate and respectful to others. Let’s celebrate the holiday in a way that we can all enjoy.”

The question of whether some Halloween costumes are “appropriate” is one of the hottest flashpoints in the culture wars right now. The mainstream media, university professors and left-wing politicians seem to agree that dressing up as people of another race is inherently offensive while a large proportion of regular people believe that costumes are only offensive if there’s an intent to mock. Unsurprisingly, Hulu’s finger-wagging tweet pissed off a lot of people who wondered why a streaming service was suddenly sounding like a social justice warrior. Hulu deleted the tweet.

.... corporate leaders might simply quote economist Milton Friedman instead. “The social responsibility of business,” he once said, “is to increase its profits.”

Well my mistake...something may get done after all...

Parkland shooting commission recommends teachers should be ARMED, says cops should have to confront active shooters in the future and slams deputies who shied away during the attack that left 17 dead

The 15-member Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission on Wednesday unanimously approved a 446-page report
It contains a proposal to allow teachers who volunteer and undergo extensive training to be armed
The proposal is now in the hands of Governor Rick Scott, governor-elect Ron DeSantis and the Legislature
It is highly critical of the Broward County sheriff's office and recommends they change its policy so deputies are required to confront active shooters

And again...prayers and thoughts

Quote
At least five people were killed when a gunman opened fire in a SunTrust Bank in Sebring, Florida, on Wednesday, police said.

The 21-year-old suspect, Zephen Xaver, barricaded himself inside before later surrendering to authorities, police said.

The suspect had contacted authorities and told them that he fired shots inside the bank, sending officers rushing to the scene around 12:30 p.m., the Sebring Police Department said.

Indeed.

Also: This qualifies statistically as a "mass shooting" that everyone pearl clutches about. I'd beg to differ on this one.

There are lies, damned lies, and statistics.
